How to Punish Back

It's ten-thirty in the morning, and we still

Haven't gotten out of bed. We're so wasted,

Either from work or play, and I think we know

The depletion of our relationship has hastened.

We're both in trouble, although I highly doubt you'd admit

Your dependencies are becoming as apparent as mine.

But while you scream at me and hold suspicion, I can

Lie back and smile, knowing they'll hit back at you in time.

We may never know, until it is too late, the

Time we've killed, the pain we've inflicted

Upon each other, all drawing right back

To the habits from which we have been addicted.

Because even though I can't do the things you do

Without being punished, you know I'm your reflection,

All your worst qualities are being manifested in me,

Determined to destroy your ideal mindset of perfection.

But I can rest easy, knowing you were the first to fall.

You'll be out of the way soon, and even if you try,

There's no stopping on the road of life, meaning that as

Soon as you can't get up, I'll be leaving you to die.
