Chapter 2 (Stop or I'll shoot)

The car is completely silent until we are out of town.
"What did you manage to grab from the garage? " Ruby asks me.
"A fishing pole, 2 empty medium-sized gas cans and a piece of plastic tubing, I thought it could work for siphoning gas," I reply.
"Do you even know how to siphon gas? " asks Ruby.
"It doesn't seem that hard."
"Where are we going?" Asks Thomas in a panicked voice.
"Well for now we're heading to a gas station, we can get a map there and fill up the car and the gas cans," Ruby says confidently.
"There's a station a couple of miles ahead," I say. "The gas station isn't near a lot of houses or people so it's probably our safest bet,"
Ruby nods and turns to look at me.
"Scarlet!" Ruby gasps. "you're arm, it's bleeding!" I look down at my left arm and see a cut, it's pretty deep.
"We'll deal with my arm later," I say trying to make it seem like it isn't that bad.

"There's the station." I point to the small gas station ahead. Ruby turns in beside the gas pumps.
"I'll fill the car, you fill the gas cans," Ruby instructs me. I just nod. Ruby grabs the rifle and I grab the knife from my bag. I turn to Thomas before getting out.
"We'll have to go inside. You stay here, don't open the doors and honk the horn if you see any monsters," I say, he looks scared but nods. Ruby gets out first and I follow right after. It doesn't take long to fill the gas cans and put them back in the trunk, Ruby doesn't take very long either. I look in the window at Thomas, and he looks back at me he looks so scared. I gave him a reassuring smile before following ruby toward the station door. The lights are on and the sine is flashing open. I look at Ruby and she has the same confused look I do.
"You think someone's in there?" I ask.
"Well only one way to find out," Ruby says before pushing open the front door. A young man is standing behind the counter. He had taken notice of our weapons and is holding his hands in the air.
"Don't hurt me!" He says in a panicked voice. Me and ruby look at each other for a second.
"I know what this looks like, but I promise we don't want to hurt you," I say. He looks confused and scared.
"What is going on?" He asks as he slowly lowers his hands.
"There are crazy dead looking people eating people," Ruby replies.
"You mean like zombies? That's completely ridiculous," The boy looks at us like we are crazy and starts laughing.
A loud banging coms from the back door. The door falls to the ground and a man covered in blood shambles his way through. He has a bit of an off smell coming from him, like nothing I've ever smelled before. Ruby raises her gun at him and he doesn't stop moving. He is heading for the boy.
"Stop or I'll shoot," Ruby yells. The man turns his head unnaturally to look at her and begins to move toward her. Ruby aims the gun at the man.
"Please stop, I don't want to have to do this." He doesn't stop. With shaking hands Ruby pulls the trigger, hitting him in the chest. The man falls backward and lands in a heap on the floor, dark sludgy blood begins to pool around him. He lets out an Inhumanly moan and begins moving again. Soon he is standing and he makes his way toward Ruby again. With tears in her eyes, she aims at the man this time hitting him in the head. He falls back to the floor, he isn't moving anymore. I hear another, moan like the the man had let out. This time it was outside.
"Guys I think there's another one coming!" I say in a panicked voice. Ruby grabs a map and starts running. I start to run too. The boy is staring at the dead pile of bloody mess on the floor, in complete shock.
"Are you coming!" I yell back to the boy.
A woman with her bottom lip missing comes through the back door. The boy jumps over the counter and runs toward me, it doesn't take long for him to catch up. We all make it back to the car and climb in as fast as we can. Ruby starts the engine and drives away. I look out the back window, I can see the woman slowly fading in the distance.

I had taken the back seat with Thomas who is clinging to my side, shaking out of fear. I look at the young man who is now in the front seat looking out the window. I notice he is wearing a name tag that says, Finnegan.
"So your names Finnegan?" I ask him gesturing to the name tag.
"I prefer Fin but yes. By the way thanks for saving my but back there," he replies.
"How old are you?" asks Thomas, who I'm surprised to hear talking after what just happened.
"I'm 19, how about you guys what are your names and how old are you?" Fin asks.
"I'm Scarlet, I'm 18. This is Thomas, he's 5 and that's Ruby, she's 19," I reply. Fin gives a warm smile. His eyes moved down towards my arm and his face turns worried.
"You're arm, it's bleeding. Are you okay? " he says in a concerned voice. I don't even get a chance to say anything before he rips the sleeve of his dark blue shirt off.
"Give me your arm," He says. I look into his light blue eyes which are slightly covered by his black hair. His eyes are calm and soft, so much different from the world I  just woke up to. I feel like I can trust him. I lift my arm toward him to let him bandage my wound.
"That will stop the bleeding but we'll need to find a first aid kit or something, to make sure it doesn't get infected. How did you get that cut?" He seems worried again.
"I cut it on something when I fell in my garage," I reply. He nods and goes back to looking out the window. Fin is thin and tall, he looks strong from what I can see, he has relatively long hair for a guy and pale skin. I feel like I have always known him despite this being the first time we've ever seen each other.
After a while, my head begins hurting and the motion of the car makes me sleepy.
