We drive for a couple of minutes before catching up with the truck, it's stoped on the side of the road but it's hard to tell why.
We slowly pull up behind the truck. Two people climb out a man and a younger woman. The woman is pale and slim. She has a thin dark gray blanket wrapped around her. The man is taller and muscular looking but not burly. He has dark stubble on his face and short black hair. The man looks like he might have a gun, but It's hard to tell.
"I think he has a gun," I whisper.
"We'll have to just be careful. Ruby, you take the gun just in case," Kilik says. He opens his door to get out, Ruby opens her door next followed by Fin. I feel scared and my knees feel a little shaky.
"It's ok, here take my hand," Fin says. I take his hand and climb out, leaving Zeina and Thomas inside. I shut the door behind me with my hip.
"Can you help us?" The man says with some kind of accent, I can't figure out what exactly it is tho.
"Yes, we'll help," Ruby says.
"Thank you." The woman replies with the same kind of accent as the man.
"How can we help?" Kilik asks, he seems a bit uneasy.
"Do you have food?" The woman asks.
"Sorry no," Kilik lies.
I feel uneasy about this whole thing. My stomach twists into a knot. I look around and my eyes land on the woman's hip which is bleeding. The blanket she wraps around herself to hide it is slowly turning red with blood. Fin's hand is still holding mine and I grip it tightly. Fin looks down at me and I look back towards the woman.
"Are you ok?" Fin asks her. The woman opens her mouth to say something but is cut off by the man.
"Yes, she's fine. We have just gotten lost and thought it would be a good idea to stop," The man replies. The man gives the woman a look as if telling her to shut her mouth.
"Do you have a map?" The man asks.
"No, I'm sorry we've got next to nothing," Kilik lies again.
"Do you mind if I take a look?" The man asks.
"Actually I would mind," Kilik replies. Then the man pulls out a pistol and points it at Kilik. Ruby raises the rifle at the man.
"You shouldn't do that!" The man yells. The man points his gun at Ruby.
"Stop!" The woman starts breathing heavily and coughing. She grabs the man's shoulder as she falls to the ground.
"Anna!" The man cries as he tries to help her. He starts yelling things in another language that I don't understand.
"What's wrong with her?" Fin asks the man.
"She's fine, she's fine, she'll be fine, she's fine," The man says frantically. Her breathing becomes more and more shallow with each breath. Tears start to fall from his eyes as the woman seems to go lifeless in his arms.
"Did she get bit?" Kilik asks. The man doesn't answer.
My head starts spinning and my arm screams in pain. I take a step back a bit.
"You ok?" Fin asks me.
"My arm just hurts like hell," I reply.
The sun begins to come up over the horizon, and if not for the situation we're in I might have stopped to admire the beautiful colours that spread across the sky. As we stand in silence just a few feet from the crying man and the possibly bit woman. I feel a weird feeling in my head and my arm begins to hurt even more. The woman's eyes open slowly and she lets out a guttural moan. Before anyone can move she sinks her teeth into the man's stomach. He screams in pain and tries to push her away. She grabs him and starts ripping him apart. The screams he lets out are horrific. The man's guts spill out of his extremely mangled stomach. His pistol lays right next to his now lifeless hand. We are all too terrified to move. The woman turns her head toward us, her cold lifeless eyes stare toward me. Ruby shoots her in the head before she can make another move. We all look at each other breathing frantically. The pain in my arm starts to fade along with the foggy feeling in my head.
