An alien race has come to Earth in peace. So far they have helped the humans with cleaning up the ozone. Unfortunately the alien females have died. The aliens ask the president for volunteers to give birth to their children in exchange for protection from other aliens. The president doesn't word it like that though. Which I think is foreshadowing. (I haven't finished the book yet, but it's easy to guess that the president will have a hidden agenda.) Due to a mistake based off a fight she had with her fiancé Alexa is volunteered to be an alien's partner.
