Enjoy Reaaadinggg!!! :DDD
I didn’t bother telling the girls anymore because I know they wouldn’t let me. And besides, we would surely have a commotion set in here, which I am trying to avoid even though my blowing-off Amber almost went a ‘little’ too overboard. Yeah, well, she deserves it.
I followed Amber to a long oval table filled with shots containing liquids colored with probably any color you could conjure up, surrounded by, maybe, half the batch’s population. I gulped nervously. I’m so dead when the girls find out I’m in this damn contest.
For a moment there, I actually thought of backing out and telling Amber that I suddenly didn’t feel well, but I know that would cause me more embarrassment and Amber will surely suck up the moment and ofcourse, she would push me around once again. Nope. I am SO not backing out on this. I’ll show her who’s boss now.
I took one last deep breath before I went over to where the announcer and Sarah Reynolds, my undefeated opponent, sort of, since we aren’t really opponents in real life… and not anywhere near acquaintances either. Our relationship is just the seeing-each-other-in-the-hallway-and-never-greeting-each-other type. We’ve never been classmates or anything. But I felt neutral around her, like this girl’s good and bad at the same time. I just hope this contest or whatever this freaking thing I grudgingly joined wouldn’t affect whatever we have, or don’t have? Ugh, whatever. Why would I bother remembering about her when she barely knows my name.
The suddenly the announcer (who is right beside me, if I may say so) announced LOUDLY in his megaphone,” Avery Matthews and Sarah Reynolds.” I gulped involuntarily after hearing my name. Prepare to die, Avery. I take it back. All those brave words I released? I gotta get outta here. Fast. Now. But before I was even able to move back, I was pushed forward, so I awkwardly stumbled right beside Sarah who gave a smug look which melted into a…warm smile? What the hell. She gave me a wink. Then whispered,” I know it’s your first time so I wouldn’t be hard on you. Let’s just give these guys a good show, I know it’s all they want.”
I actually felt my pulse slow down and my nervousness drain away, the corners of my lips tugging into a small smile. Maybe Sarah really isn’t as bad as I thought she would be. Sarah and I both stepped forward once more so that we were standing in front of the tiny shot glasses containing the multi-colored liquid, which looks deceivingly inviting. I looked over at Sarah, just as she did look at me and we had a short eye contact. She gave me one last smile and a ‘good luck’ before she turned her game-face on. I just closed my eyes and breathed deeply. Oh, Avery, what kind of problem have you gotten yourself into now?
Then the announcer spoke once again into his mega phone,” At the count of 3, you may already start.” The crowd joined in on the countdown. “One……Two…….Threeeee!!!” And… blam! All hell broke loose, the crowd went wild and I was furiously downing the contents of shot glass after shot glass.
As I continued gulping down the tiny glass’s contents, I instantly felt dizzy. Geez, what’s in this? “Alcohol, dummy,” my brain inquired. Of course I do know it’s alcohol, but what-“ I shot mentally back, but wasn’t able to finish the thought when I noticed that Sandra was already on her 5th glass. Shoot! I’ve gotta catch up! I swallowed the remaining shot glass’s contents in one gulp and finished it all just a few seconds ahead of Sarah. The whole crowd cheered and whistled. I felt pumped but my head was pounding so bad I wasn’t able to stand up straight and almost crumbled to the floor if I didn’t get ahold of the table.
