chapter 21

*NEWTS POV*

The next morning Minho and Thomas went back out into the maze to, i tried working in the gardens but i couldn't help thinking about Ann, she had been acting really odd ever since Teresa came up. I'll catch her starring at her as if she did remember her, and hated her. I also noticed her catching me starring at Teresa, but i would quickly look away and down at my feet, or to whoever was talking. 

"Hey i'm going to go look for Ann" i said to Zart and walked away, i had a feeling there was only one place she could be; i walked into the woods and toward the meadow. Sure enough there she was sitting on the ground picking flowers. I walked over to her, and sat next to her. 

"What do you want?" she said immediately

"well i wanted to see if you were okay, and maybe hangout with you" 

"why?" she replied

"because you're my best friend and i love you"

"oh so i am a friend?"

"you know what i mean, my BEST friend."

"So then why do you keep looking at Teresa?"

"why do you?" i retaliated 

"because i've worked with her, she's helping them. WCKD" 

"well she seems like she wants to help find a way out."

"i still don't trust her Newt"

"why can't you?"

"why CAN you?" she replied

"i believe in second chances" i said

"that's your problem Newt, you forgive to easily"

"why can't you?"

"i can, just not with her, not right now. not after the dreams I've had with her"

"the dreams you wont tell me about?"

"yes"

"why can't you tell me about them?"

"i just can't Newt, you have to trust me"

"how can i trust someone who wont even tell me anything!" she started crying and then got up and walked away "Ann!" i said getting up and running after her

"Jut leave me alone Newt!"

"no, not until you tell me whats wrong"

"i just can't! why can't you understand that there are going to be somethings i just can't tell you!!"

"i'm your boyfriend, and you have to understand that as such and second in command, that i will try everything to get you to tell me whats bugging you"

"well maybe i just need a friend, who wont push so much!"

"okay well i can't do that"

"exactly, that's why i think we should just end it"

"end what?"

"us"

"Ann, come on"

"no newt, if you can't respect my decision not to tell you whats wrong, i don't think we should be together. bye Newt." she said and then walked off. i stood there shocked, pissed, upset, sad. I didn't know what i was feeling. I just lost the only girl i think i ever loved. No i did love; i loved her, i had her, and then i lost her.
