chapter 15

"so has anyone tried to climb to the top?" Thomas asked me, i looked over at Newt

"yes, we've tried it." he said not looking at him.

"well what about--"

"look everything you can think of we've tried it. Now if you want to help go get some more fertilizer" he said tossing a basket to Thomas, who sighed and walked away. I turned to Newt, "what?"

"you could be a little nicer, he's just curious" i say, he ignored me and went back to work. I had the day off so i was helping out in the gardens, i had just finished picking fruit for Fry when I heard someone screaming, it grew louder and louder. I looked around and realized it was coming from the woods

"Thomas" i say to Newt. Thomas came running in and behind him was Ben, chasing him. He tackled Thomas and got ontop of him digging his fingers into his wrist. Newt grabbed a shovel and hit ben over the head, not knocking him out though, a few boys held him down and i helped Thomas up.

"lift is shirt" Alby said, they did

"He's been stung" said Gally

"throw him into the pit" said Alby, they carried Ben off.

Finally i get to do my job. I was bandaging Thomas' wrist

"it'll heal but you have to take care of it" i said

"does this happen a lot?" Thomas asked

"only once before," Alby said "to George, Ann's brother" Thomas looked at me and i looked away

"Well you're all good, i'll be with Chuck, lets go Chuck" i said pulling him with me

"She doesn't like talking about, she found out they were related the day he got stung. As did the rest of us" Albys said

"that must suck"

"yeah, well. Now we have to do something with Ben... did he say anything to you?" he asked

"he said he'd scene before, that this was me and Ann's fault. But i don't remember anything, how could this be my fault?"

"i don't know." Alby just said "i don't know"

I was finishing work in the gardens with Newt, when Thomas ran up to us

"hey" he said, Newt just kind of sighed, i guess he thought Thomas was going to ask more questions

"hey" i replied

"um, can i talk to you, Ann?"he asked

"uh, sure" i say

"alone?" he asked, i just looked at Newt he seemed kind of upset that Thomas wanted me alone. I nod and follow Thomas.

"So what did you want to talk about?" I asked finally

"About your brother, Alby told me he was stung as well" i just stopped for a minute, i didn't really want to talk about, not just because he was a new glader, i wouldn't even talk about it with Newt.

"Yeah, he did." I said

"Did he say anything?"

"All i know he said to me was, this was my fault, just like you said Ben told you"

"But how can we?"

"I don't know. Do you remember dreams?"

"Yeah, a few though. Like i remember you, we were in a lab together, with another girl"

"Teresa. But i never actually see her face. Just her voice"

"Hey aren't you two supposed to be working?" I heard Gally shout.

"What's his problem?"

"Everything, come on we should probably get back to work"
