Bear and I walked up to my room. We were both quiet as we entered my personal space, neither of us having much to say.
Obviously hating the quiet as much as I did, Bear sighed quietly, saying, "Soooooooo," as she played with her fingers. "Are you going to get with Connor?"
That one question broke the silence between us as I made a gagging sound. "Are you serious? No. He seems like a creep."
"A hot creep," Bear said, waggling her eyebrows.
Rolling my eyes, I couldn't help but feel a smile slip onto my face. "Hot or not, I don't feel like getting with a guy who knows where I am before I even know." Automatically, my smile fell...so did Bear's. "I'm sorry," I murmured, bowing my head. "I didn't mean to bring that up."
Bear tried for a smile, but it faltered halfway through. "You don't need to apologize. I'm not the only one who has to deal with this."
The two of us fell silent again, and I looked up to see a tear running down my best friend's face. "Hey," I said, crawling over to her. "What's wrong?"
Bear sniffed and looked to me. "We could have been stuck there. What if Connor had never turned up? Who knows what would have happened to us."
I pulled Bear into a hug, kissing the top of her head. "It's okay. Don't think about what may have happened. We're home, and that's all that is important."
The green eyed girl nodded, snuggling further into me. I watched as her eyes fluttered closed, her breathing become slow. It seemed as though Bear was going to fall asleep, but her phone suddenly started buzzing and her ringtone played.
"Hello?" she grumbled when she answered the phone. Bear's voice sounded exhausted, and you could see the weight of today playing on her. "Mhm," she mumbled. "Alright." Bear rolled her beautiful eyes and shook her head. "Sure, we can talk about it when you get home." That one sentence made me realize that Bear was talking to one of her parents. "Will we talk about it tonight at dinner?" A pause. "Oh, that's right. You and mum never come home for dinner anymore. It's a surprise you even come home at all." Bear listened for a second, an exasperated sigh escaping her lips. "Whatever. I'm staying at Mia's tonight." Another eye roll. "I'll go to school tomorrow if I feel like it." I could hear an angry response, and that caused a smirk to form on Bear's face. "Love you, daddy. Bye."
Once Bear hung up, I looked at her with my brows furrowing. "What was that about?"
Throwing her phone down, Bear let out a big huff and face planted down onto my bed. "Uhgkgbdkjf," she mumbled into the pillows, making it totally impossible to understand what she was saying.
"Come again?"
Bear looked up and said, in a fairly annoyed tone, "It was about me skipping school." I thought that that's all that she was going to say, but then she sat up and continued. "Dad told me that it was not 'acceptable' and that him, mum and I will be having a conversation about my attitude these past few weeks. It's not going to happen, though. He told me the exact same thing last month, and I'm still waiting on the damn conversation."
"I'll go ask mum if you can stay tonight," I said with a small smile.
"Oh, you don't have to. I was just doing that to piss my dad off. He doesn't like it when I stay at people's houses during the school week."
Shaking my head, I smiled a bit more. "Then we shall piss him off together."
Bear laughed a little. "To be fair, I was going to ask if I could stay tonight anyway. I don't want to go home and be there alone after what happened today."
