Catie's heart wrenched as she heard the sickening snap of bone. Toasty's young, frail body lay lifeless on the pavement. Catie rushed over to her injured friend, tears pooling in her eyes. She gently touched two finger's two Toasty's slim wrist. No pulse. She put her hand in front of Toasty's nose and mouth, hoping for even the slightest whisper of breath, but to no avail. Catie let her tears drip onto the Toasty's mangled body. She had fallen at a strange, unnatural angle; knees bent, arms out. It was clear that she had tried to hold out her hands to muffle the fall, considering the twisted fingers that were clearly broken. Her hair shone in the sunlight, giving off a false illusion of life. Toasty's eyes were shut peacefully but her mouth was open as if to scream. Catie stared down at her dead friend, guilt washing over her. She had pushed Toasty, after all. She just hadn't been expecting such a morbid outcome.
