Adam felt like he was stuck between a rock and a hard place, his father was furious and didn't want anything to do with Alex. In a way, Adam understood his father's stance, here was this kid that his mother deemed worthy, she was the perfect mother for him.Yet, she had been shit when it came to being a mother to him. He'd be lying if he said it didn't bother him, that he didn't wonder what was different about Alex that his mother loved him. He knew that was too simplistic of a way to look at it.
He knew what it was and it had nothing to do with Alex or himself, it was all about Sylvia she had made the change needed to become that mother. She had overcome her addiction and found a new life and a new son.
Alex was a good kid, Nick worshipped the ground he walked on, yes it was complicated now..but there was no way in hell he'd remove Alex from Nick's life. His father needed to get used to it...if it cost him his relationship with his father it would suck, but Nick trumped everyone including his father.
Alex hadn't seen Adam or talked to him since the night he learned they were brothers, he knew things would be different now, he just didn't know how different.
They agreed to meet a diner just a few minutes from the dorms, Alex had arrived fist and secured a booth towards the back, he stood up and waved Adam over when he spotted him.
"Adam..hey" Alex wore a lopsided grin, "how's Nick?" He rushed, shit he was more nervous than he had realized. He quickly sat back down, in hopes of hiding his nervousness.
Adam grinned, "Relax, Alex. Nothing's changed" he explained, "We're good.. None of this is your fault"
Alex nodded "Thanks man, I wasn't sure what to expect, didn't know if you'd still want me around Nick"
"It will work out Alex, it's not your fault." Adam pulled the teenager up from the booth and hugged him, "you're family kid, you're my brother"
THREE MONTHS LATER
"So..how's things with Alex and Adam?" Erin asked Kim as they watched the kids play in the back yard, Lucas sleeping peacefully in her arms.
"Good, really good" Kim smiled, "Things are great they've bonded, and Nick is just over the moon about it"
"Why do I sense a but.." Erin laughed as Alex lifted Jake onto his shoulder and ran with him, Jake's laughter filling the air.
Kim groaned, "Bob hasn't been that accepting, he thinks Adam should cut Alex out of our lives...specifically Nick's"
"How does Adam feel about that?"
"He refuses...which means things have been strained to say the least, I'm not even sure they'll show up today"
They were celebrating Adam's birthday, while he didn't want a big to do, Kim insisted that they mark the occasion, that after all that had transpired with Nick and finding out about Alex.
She was desperate to celebrate.
She could hear Adam and Jay returning from the beer run, "Darlin', my pops here yet?" He kissed her cheek.
"Not yet...but you know my mom. She's always running late" she could see the worry in his eyes, "I'm sure he'll be here"
