I stared at them with a blank expression, waiting for a "Just kidding!" or "Fooled ya!", but no. They just stared at me with a mixture of sadness and worry.
"What are you talking about? I met him. I've talked to him.", I said in a shaky voice.
"He died 3 years back when that house across the street caught on fire.", my gramdpa said softly. "His parents were out of town on a business trip, so he was home alone. It was in the winter, and he had the propane powered fireplace on, and something happened with the propane. The fire department said there was a leak and the fireplace burst into flames. He was asleep on the couch when it happened. By the time he woke up...the entire living room was engulfed in flames. He didn't make it out. The house was repaired, but the parents packed up and moved away. They couldn't stand being in the house...too many memories. Nobody has moved in since."
My grandpa glanced out the kitchen window to the house, sitting perfectly as if it had never caught on fire. As if a young boy had never tragically died in it.
A tear slipped down my cheek as a mixture of emotions filler me. Anger, sadness, confusion...
"None of this makes sense. None of it!", I quivered.
"Well this may seem hard to believe", my grandma spoke, "but I believe who you're seeing is the ghost of Jungkook. You said you've seen and talked to him right? Have you made physical contact with him by any chance?", she questioned.
"Yes, we shook hands.", I said, still confused.
"Well...back in my day.", she hesitated. "I was pretty involved with the supernatural. I was good friends with a man named John Winchester, and we dealt with spirits quite frequently, both good and bad. I can tell you now, there's a reason you can see him and we can't.", she said in a low voice, leaning towards me.
"What? You can't see him? I thought you saw him when I asked if I could go on a walk yesterday...he was with me.", I spoke.
"No...you're the only person I saw, Lily." I felt chills run down my body.
"There's a reason. They say you can only see or feel a ghost if you're truly meant to. You were meant to see Jungkook. You're meant to help that boy. Whether it be guiding him to the light or...bringing him back. That's up for you to find out.", she said, gripping on to my hand.
"Help him."
