Sink in

Chapter 5

I have been awake for quite some time now but don't dare to get off my bed. Yesterday is the scariest day of my life! How I wish that everything is just a dream.

I saw Mr. Rodney and Mr. Crisford before the incident. I even talked to them. Now, they are both gone.

I buried my face on my pillow trying to erase the bad memories which I know is impossible.

Then, I heard a fainted knock. "Harlem, are you awake?"

I put away the pillow and stared at the ceiling. I know someone's knocking at the door but I can't clearly recognize the voice. I listened carefully.

"Harlem?" someone shouted again. "Harlem, open the door."

Was it Charrie?

"Harlem!" she called.

I hurriedly went out of my room and ran towards the main door.

There, I saw Charrie's worried face.

"Charrie." I almost cried while embracing her.

"What's wrong? Care to tell me?" she asked as she tapped my shoulder.

I let go of her and opened the door widely to let her in. We both sat on the sofa but refused to utter any word at first.

I bowed my head and touched the hem of my shirt. Will she believe me if I tell her?

I looked at her. She's my friend and I know she'll understand.

I let out a deep sigh and decided to break the silence. Charrie only looked at me in confusion and sympathy.

"I was in the library before the incident happened. ---" I paused. When I heard no response I continued. "I even talked to Mr. Rodney and Mr. Guil---- "

"What?" she interrupted. "Did they hurt you?"

"No. They didn't." I shook my head." But it's not the point. Charrie, something happened in the library."

I told Charrie about the shadow in the 3rd floor of Lancester library, the sudden disappearance of Mr. Rodney at the second floor who manage to show up in front of me at the first floor and the strange conversation with Mr. Crisford.

"Look Charrie, I don't expect you to believe me. But Hell! I'm telling the truth. I know what I saw!"I shouted as I breakdown crying.

I'm still hoping she won't accused me as insane for what I told her.

"Calm down". She said worriedly and comforted me. I cried on her shoulder like I always did when were still young. She's been a good sister to me even if when we're not really related by blood.

"Don't cry."she whispered.

"I'm not crazy. Am I?" I asked in between sobs.

"No of course! You're not crazy! Harlem, maybe, you're just "gifted" ". She stopped talking and looked at me seriously.

"Gifted?" I stared at her. "What do you mean?" I could feel some lines started to form in my forehead.

"You know ..." she paused and stared at me intently. "a sort of third eye". She continued.
