“So...” Vann said, leaning back in his seat, ignoring the usual buzz of the tavern around him, “Tell me…What’re we supposed to be doing? I know I said I’d help out, but I don’t know a thing about, well… anything. ”

Blue finished taking a sip of her drink before she responded, “Yes I’ve noticed.”

“So then tell me what’s- wait, what the hell is that supposed to mean?”

Blue took another small drink, pretending she hadn’t heard. Setting her cup down she looked the blue haired teenager in the eyes.

“I am glad that you agreed to help,” She stated emotionlessly, “However, at the moment, there is no pressing business to attend to. From what I can tell, no other parts of the Matrix Key have revealed themselves.”

“Revealed themselves?” Vann repeated, raising an eyebrow.  Blue nodded.

“Yes, When Adam Tego hid the pieces of the key in Final Fable, he took many precautions to ensure that they could never be found by any normal means.” She closed her eyes as she continued, looking thoughtful, “The program for the key were programed into devices, like the card that you found that contained my own program, and Tego hid these cards within this virtual world, creating protective barriers around them to prevent any normal players from stumbling across them. However,” Blue opened her eyes, “As you can clearly see, Final Fable is a quite popular game. And Neoworks is one of the most powerful companies in the world, and employ some of the top programmers of the time.”

Vann cocked his head as he listened.

“As time passed. Neoworks has made changes to the game, updates, expansions, bug fixes…All these things have been added to the original game. So, because of all these changes to the games original code, the protective barriers that Tego placed around the Key pieces are starting to dissolve. They’re weakening. Soon enough they will disappear completely, and once that happens, not only will I be able to sense them, but Hackers as well.”

“Hey, that reminds me,” Vann said, raising an eyebrow, “If this Tego guy hid all the pieces of the Key in Final Fable, how come I found your program card out in the real world?”

Blue cocked her head slightly, thinking, “I do not know. Because I hadn’t been activated yet I didn’t have much awareness of my surroundings.”

“Oh, okay.” Vann sighed, stretching himself over the table, “But besides that, how many of these Key pieces are there?” Blue took another sip of her drink.

“…It pains me to admit, but I do not know that either.” She answered, “There could be as few as five or ten, or as many as a hundred.”

“I’m liking this whole thing less and less.” Vann grumbled with half lidded eyes.

“Complaining won’t change anything.” Blue replied, paying him no attention.

Vann was about to respond but was cut off when someone jumped onto his table, causing the Dragon to nearly fall out of his chair in surprise.

“Vann!” Rallen shouted, kneeling  on the table to glare at the blue haired teenager, “What’s this?! We figured that you’d come back and find us but you never did! What’s with you!?” The warrior leaned in close, “You jerk! You just wanted to hang out with the hot girl all by yourself didn’t you!?”

“What did I say about being to close?” Vann said irritably as he grabbed the warriors shoulder and threw him off the table.

“See, I told you, you shouldn’t interrupt.” A calm happy voice laughed.

Vann looked up. “Hey, Adan.”

The Alchemist smiled and raised a hand in greeting. “Vann, Miss.” He greeted, “Good to see you back.”
