Sometimes, I wondered if she was my sister. How could she constantly reprimand me because of him?
It had been two hours since she stepped into my room along with Ruhi, Neena, and Anisha dressed in their pj's. They hadn't stopped interrogating me about the thing I'd supposedly done. Well, they could try all night long. I wouldn't budge.
I just framed the picture of Vihar dressed as a girl and kept it on his office desk. Okay, I had requested Mr.Pandey to do it. Surely, it was not a big deal. They were making it look like I had framed an indecent picture. I wouldn't argue if Vihar was considered as indecent.
"I didn't do anything," I insisted for the fifth time collapsing on the bed.
"Are you kidding me?" Kajal asked, placing her hands on her hips.
I looked at the girls for help, but they stared at me like my sister was right.
"Do you agree with my sister?" I asked, willing them to take my side.
"Don't try to look innocent. You are an adult now. You shouldn't be childish," my sister said, tying her long hair in a ponytail.
I fell on the bed and buried myself under the pillows.
"I'm not childish," I whined.
My sister removed the pillow from my face, and I groaned.
"How could you decorate his desk with his photos?" my sister reprimanded.
Why did my sister make it sound like it was a big issue? It was not like I posted the photos on every employee's desk. Maybe I should have done that. It would have served him right.
She waved a hand in front of my face. "Are you listening?"
I sighed in frustration. "It's not a big deal. Leave it."
She sat next to me, and the girls left their phones and scattered on the bed. They sure did know how to corner me. I sat in the middle, and all the girls sat around me -- like four poles. I could not believe that they were trying to make me feel guilty. What should I do now? Beg him to forgive me. Not going to happen.
"Why are you doing this, Payal? You were best friends," my sister reasoned, giving me a small smile.
My point.
"Exactly, that's the reason. We were friends. Not anymore. So, please don't try to patch things up. No one wants to," I enunciated, hoping that she would see some sense.
She shook her head like she couldn't believe that I was the one talking -- in fact, all were shaking their heads. What was this? Some head exercise? Unbelievable. They sure were behaving like they had Vihar's best interest at heart. No problem. I could fight my own battles. Or maybe not. I needed back up. I had to call the guys soon.
"At least talk to him. We won't ask you again." All had a sincere smile on their faces, but I wouldn't fall for those smiles. First, they'd ask to talk. Was walking in a park next?
Kajal was trying to be sneaky. My mother used those lines on my sister. I'd an honor of listening to their conversation a thousand times. I would be perfectly fine without talking, thank you very much.
They were waiting for my reply with bated breath. I would never disappoint my sister. She knew it, but there was a catch now.
"All right. I'd do it but on one condition," I said, trying to act cool. I would bet that they all released their breaths at a time. When did my boring life start giving anticipation to my friends? It had always been boring to me.
