PART THREE CHAPTER THREE
IT WAS EARLY THE NEXT MORNING. None of the avengers really got any sleep, but they all pretended like they did as they assessed the damage that Ultron had caused. Victoria walked out of the elevator into the living area in which the party was held yesterday, wearing yoga pants and a long sleeved thermal runners top and some Nikes, along with Maria and Steve, who were always dressed for duty.
"He's all over the globe. Robotics labs, weapons facilities, jet propulsion labs, reports of a metal man, or men, coming in and emptying the place." Maria told the pair as they walked around the smashed glass and up the stairs onto the next level.
"Fatalities?" Steve asked.
"Only when engaged. Mostly guys left in a fugue state going on about old memories, worst fears, and something too fast to see."
"Maximoffs. Well, that makes sense he'd go to them, they have someone in common."
"Not anymore." Maria said, handing Steve her tablet. They stopped at the top of the stairs. His eyes widened as he passed Victoria the device. On the screen was an image of Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker, his body slumped- clearly dead- with the word 'PEACE' written in blood on the wall above her. She choked on her spit, dropping the tablet.
"That was the one person I wanted to kill most in this world and now I can't. I am going to tear Ultron to shreds." She growled, angry that she couldn't get her closure on Hydra and Strucker after all she's been through. Steve picked up the tablet and placed his hand on her lower back, leading the trio further through the hall, where Clint was talking on his phone.
"That's a negative. I answer to you. Yes, ma'am."
"Barton, we might have something." Steve caught his attention, making him hang up. "Who was that?"
"Girlfriend." Clint admitted. How he had a girlfriend, Victoria had no idea.
In the lab where the other four avengers were, Steve handed Thor the tablet with the picture of Strucker on.
"What's this?" Tony asked, thinking that Victoria had done it, at first.
"A message. Ultron killed Strucker." Thor slapped the tablet into Tony's stomach.
"And he did a Banksy at the crime scene, just for us." Tony quipped. "Surprised you didn't get there first, Vic." He said.
"Yeah, well I was too busy having fun doing good guy work." She rolled her eyes.
"This is a smokescreen. Why send a message when you've just given a speech?" Natasha questioned rhetorically.
"Strucker knew something that Ultron wanted us to miss." Steve replied.
