VICTORIA WATCHED OUT THE WINDOW AS THE JET LANDED IN A LARGE, GREEN OPEN SPACE. Further away, she could see a couple of small buildings. She slowly walked across the large field, following behind Steve and the other Avengers, a few steps ahead of Bruce. Her hands glided across the tops of the large stems of grass, her cape getting caught every so often by a thistle or thorn. They all walked silently through an opening in the fence surrounding the perimeter, the silence not being broken until they stepped up onto the porch of the cream country house.
"What is this place?" Thor asked.
"A safe house?" Her older brother responded, unsure.
"Let's hope." Clint said before opening the door, leading Natasha inside. Everyone else followed in, wary, whilst Victoria lingered in the doorway.
"Honey?" She heard Clint call, "I'm home." Victoria watched as the group entered the house until she lost sight of them. She wasn't sure if she should step foot into his home, a man that had hated her for so long- she felt like she was intruding. She looked down at her feet before a voice interrupted her intruding thoughts. "Victoria? You can come in, you know." Clint smiled at her, his head hanging around the door frame that lead into another room. Her eyes widened in shock, but she walked in nevertheless, and Clint took a hold of her elbow and lead her further into the room, where the Avengers were stood awkwardly in front of a brown haired woman who was heavily pregnant.
"Gentleman, Victoria, this is Laura." Clint said, wrapping an arm around her waist. Victoria stood in between Thor and Tony, fiddling with her fingers.
"I know all your names." Laura said with an awkward wave. Her gaze and posture kind of stiffened at the sight of Victoria, however, and her smile dropped. Victoria stepped back, as if she could some how shrink into the shadows.
"Ooh, incoming." Clint said before stepping away from his girlfriend, "I see her!" He said as a young girl ran in the room, followed by a slightly older boy. He kissed the top his head. "Hey, buddy! How you guys doing? Ooh..." The rest of the Avengers stood watching in shock.
"These are...smaller agents." Tony said, pointing at them.
"Look at your face! Oh, my goodness!" Clint gushed.
"Should these children not be in training? No?" Victoria asked, confused, as she stepped forwards towards her brother. Everyone stopped still and looked at her. She shrunk backwards again, embarrassed.
"No, Victoria. I don't want them to live the life I do." Clint said, smiling at her reassuringly. Victoria nodded.
"Did you bring Aunty Nat?" The little girl asked, breaking the awkward tension.
"Why don't you hug her and find out?" Nat said, coming out from the end of the line and towards the doorway, and Barton's daughter rushed towards her. She picked her up in her arms and hugged the young girl. Victoria looked away.
