I turned to look at him, still shocked that he was standing in my kitchen. He looked unbelievably sexy in a tailored suit with shirt and tie, his face was clean shaven and his hair was styled perfectly in his trademark quiff.
I stood for a moment taking in his beauty before I hesitantly asked "What are you doing here?" My voice was shaking from the shock of seeing him.
His answer was very cool "I missed you babe" he said as he handed me the beautiful bouquet of flowers. I placed the flowers on the bench, not wanting to take my eyes off Danny for a second, not believing he was real.
I took a step closer to Danny and wrapped my arms around him in a tight hug. Pulling back slightly to look into his eyes and drink in his beauty, we were unable to prevent the smiles that were spreading across our faces.
Danny's hand moved to my face as he gently stroked my cheek. "God I really fucking missed you" he said while leaning in until our lips touched.
The shock I had felt was now gone and was replaced by a tingling sensation which jumped around my body following his touch.
The kiss grew with passion as our tongues fought for dominance and it became very heated as he trailed his kisses along my jaw before pausing at my ear and whispering "You look stunning" I smiled as he said this, not because of the words he used but just because he sounded so damn sexy.
He pecked my lips before taking my hand and leading me to the living room.
After numerous kissed and compliments were shared I eventually asked him again "What are you doing here Danny?"
He looked at me with desire in his eyes. I was straddled across his lap so for once he had to look up at me.
"I'm sorry for just turning up like this, but I couldn't stop thinking about you and I needed to see you. I shouldn't have gone to Dublin."
He seemed a bit worried as he said this and I couldn't believe he was saying sorry for coming.
"This is the best surprise ever, I can't believe you are here." I said as I ran my hands down his chest as if checking again that he was real.
"So about date night?" Danny questioned.
"What about it?" I asked.
"Well I didn't really fancy Skype bar so I booked us a table at Mal Maison, I thought it might be nice to go back to where we first met?"
I was absolutely blown away by how thoughtful he had been. "I'd like that" I replied.
It was strange going back to the bar where Danny and I had first met, as we went in I instinctively walked over to the seats where we had sat that first night and as I sat down Danny asked what I wanted to drink. Lifting the cocktail menu, I opted for a Bad Boy Good Girl, I remembered that this was the nicest cocktail we had tried. Danny laughed "Are we doing the whole list again?" he asked, I'm not entirely sure if this was a serious question or if he was joking.
"No, just the one for old times" I replied. He smiled and went to order my drink along with a New York Sour for him.
Being back in the bar felt strange, it is almost a year since that fateful night when Danny walked into my life and changed it so dramatically that I barely remember my life without him in it.
He smirked as he looked around the bar "So who's your wing woman for tonight?" he joked.
In the most serious voice I could manage I said with mock fear "I didn't think I'd need one, oh God Danny is this where I find out you're a crazy axe murderer?"
"Nah, you're safe babe" Danny laughed as he kissed my cheek.
A waiter came to take us to our table. Looking through the menu everything sounded so good. I eventually settled on the Thai BBQ chicken lollipops to start and chicken grille for main, while Danny ordered crab tacos to start and strip steak and lobster for his main. He ordered drinks of a bottle of Pinot Grigio, my favourite wine, and a bottle of sparkling water.
As the waiter left to get the drinks he said to me "The water's for you, I remember how much you like it."
Taking his had across the table and interlocking our fingers I said to him "You're confident, you don't think you need to get me drunk?"
As soon as I said it I could feel my cheeks warming, shit, how was he so good at this. When we flirt, I always blush first but now I'm making myself blush, what the fuck?
"Oh I'm good, don't want you to be too drunk to enjoy the ride" he said quite casually with the most seductive look in his eyes. My cheeks were now on fire. It wasn't that I couldn't think of a comeback, it's just I needed to cool down as my face was really burning.
When the drinks arrived I poured a glass of water and took a sip as I tried to compose myself.
"Kay I was only joking" Danny said as he poured 2 glasses of wine.
"No no Danny, but this had better be the ride of my life." I said sarcastically before I saw a sight that I very rarely seen, there was a definite rosiness to Danny's cheeks. Very slight, but definitely there.
"Aw, did I make you blush?" I joked with him, ignoring the fact that I was blushing more.
We continued to chat and flirt all the way through our meal. I was stuffed when we had eaten and couldn't finish mine but Danny was still able to order, and eat, sticky toffee pudding.
"How are you not about 50 stone?" I asked rolling my eyes as he cleared his plate.
"Don't worry babe, I'll work that off tonight." He replied without pausing for thought. And there it was, the familiar heat radiating from my cheeks again.
Once we paid the bill we got into a taxi to head back to my house.
"So, good surprise?" Danny asked with his arm wrapped protectively around my shoulder as we sat in the back of the taxi.
"The best" I replied with a grin that seemed like it would never fade.
