Chapter 37
Two weeks.
It had now been two weeks since I last saw Sam, and I still missed him like hell. The apartment was just so empty without his presence.
For every day that we were apart, I made sure to text him good morning. He never replied. It was crazy to think that he only lived across the hall from me, in Sarah’s apartment, but we hadn’t bumped into each other once.
Now that Sarah and I were on good terms, I didn’t ask her if she could talk to Sam or if she could let me see him. I knew without a doubt that she would agree but it was hard enough on her already, and she didn’t need to worry herself with our problems.
Sighing, I stepped out of bed and rubbed my eyes. My hand immediately went out to grab my phone and I thumbed in a message to Sam.
After jumping into the shower, I made myself some breakfast and then got ready for work. The idea of going into the school to teach sounded like the worst idea in the world but I had to go in. I had missed so many days recently due to the breakup and I would be sacked if I skipped again.
Half an hour later, I was at the school and sorting out my notes for the first lesson. I sat down in the chair of the classroom and glanced at the clock. There was still another fifteen minutes until class started so I decided to check my phone.
My heart sank when, as always, there was no new message from Sam. It was beginning to irritate me that he was just completely ignoring me. Now that I think about it, he was seriously overreacting. Rhys was my friend and the fact that he just didn’t trust me hurt my feelings.
A knock on the door made my jump.
“Come in,” I called.
The door creaked open and a small head popped out.
“Craig,” I said, recognising the blonde boy. “Hello!”
“Hi, Miss.” He stepped inside and smiled shyly at me. It was a stark contrast to the usual cheeky grin.
I nodded towards the chair in front of my desk. “Sit down. What’s up?”
Craig sat down and looked up at me, the smile growing. “I got my exam results.”
I blinked, not having a clue what he was on about, and then it clicked. I had been tutoring him before, because he was in his last year of primary school and had to take an 11+ examination to get into secondary school.
“And I passed.”
