Chapter 41
Sam and I were rebuilding our relationship slowly and gently. There were still things we needed to talk about, things I had to make him understand, before it would go back to the way before, but it was heading in a good direction.
The only thing we were absolutely sure on was that our love for each other was unbreakable. I would do anything just to bring out that beautiful smile of his. My heart belonged to his and always would.
It had been three weeks since the talk with Rhys, and in that time he had quit his job and I hadn't seen him in person for a while. We texted back and forth but today we were going to meet. I had so much to tell him, and vice versa.
"Sam," I groaned, trying to pry his arms off me but his grip around my waist only tightened. We were currently in bed and I needed to get ready. Sam mumbled sleepily and buried his face in the crook of my neck.
His body was warm against mine and I just wanted to stay right there and fall asleep in his arms, but it was time to push my needs to the side and put Rhys first. He deserved my undivided attention after everything I put him through. I owed it to him to be there for him and, honestly, I wanted to help him through this. I hated seeing him so broken and fragile. Although I had no romantic feelings towards him, I still cared deeply for him. He was one of my best friends.
"Stay in bed," he breathes in my ear. I catch a whiff of the smell and suddenly I'm on my feet, face scrunched up in disgust.
"Oh my God, you have really bad morning breath," I said and he chuckled before rolling over and pressing his face against the pillow.
I debated on whether I should ask Sam to accompany but essentially decided against it. His presence would just make Rhys uncomfortable and Sam wasn't that eager to come anyway.
After brushing my teeth and combing my hair, I proceeded to undress. All of a sudden, Sam was wide awake. He lay on the bed and stared at me creepily.
"Stop looking," I said and felt my cheeks heat up.
Amusement danced in his eyes. "I've seen it all before, baby. Come here."
"No, you're going to make me late."
"I want to make you feel good," he said in a deep, raspy voice. My insides squirmed and my imagination ran wild, but ultimately I shook my head.
"Not today," I said and pulled on a skirt.
"Please," he begged and I rolled my eyes.
"You are so needy," I said and put on a cute yellow jumper. I checked myself one last time in the mirror before strolling over towards Sam. Bending down, I pecked him on the lips. "See you later, Sammy."
He wrapped his arms around my neck when I tried to pull away and brought my head down again for a long, slow, passionate kiss.
"I love you," he murmured, pulling away.
"I love you too."
I shrugged on the first jacket I could find, grabbed my purse and exited the apartment. I was meeting Rhys at his apartment and, after taking the bus, I was soon at his front door, my heart pounding against my chest. I was so nervous yet excited at the same time. I raised my trembling hand and pressed the doorbell.
It took a minute for the door to finally swing open and my lips immediately stretching into a smile.
"Hello," Rhys said happily, staring at me with clear, blue eyes.
"Wow," was all I could say. He was different but in a really great way. His eyes were no longer bloodshot and his overall attitude just screamed positivity. Dressed in a black jumper and a pair of old jeans, he looked comfortable and... normal.
