“I hate to say I told you so.”

“Then stop saying it!”

Sam looked really pleased with himself because, for once, he was right. But I just didn’t have the patience for him.

“Oh come on! Even you should be pretty happy with yourself, Kat.”

A knowing smile crept onto my face. Ah yes. Did I forget to say? Raj came running after me when I left and I got to kick him in his ‘special place’.

“That did feel good,” I admitted.

“See?”

“Whatever,” I said, rubbing my eyes. “I think I’ll go to sleep. See you.”

“Wait!” Sam called as I stood up. I looked at him questioningly. “It’s only eleven o’clock. We can still watch a movie.”

I shook my head.

“No thanks.”

“But... but you’re not working in the morning! Aw come on, I’m trying to cheer you up here,” he said, putting on a pout. His face was too cute to resist.

“Oh alright,” I sighed.

“Which movie do you want to watch?” asked Sam eagerly, rummaging through the DVD collection.

“I don’t care,” I mumbled, straining my eyes to stay open. A yawn threatened to burst through my lips and I swallowed it down with difficulty.

Sam decided to watch Scream. When it got really scary, he offered to cuddle me, which I immediately accepted because that makes me feel safer. He also insisted on draping a blanket over us, telling me he was really cold.

“Oh my God,” I whispered, burying my face in his chest when another person was killed by the masked man. “I hate this.” Sam chuckled.

After a while I started dozing off and I don’t know when, but I fell asleep in Sam’s arms.

                “Katrina?”

My eyelids fluttered. “What?” I tried to mumble through closed lips.

Hands gripped my shoulders and I felt my body shake. The drowsiness disappeared quickly. I opened my eyes and was immediately blinded by bright white light.

                “What?” I repeated groggily.

Sam’s face swam into my field of vision. “Kat. Kat. Wake up!”

“I am, I am,” I said, swatting away his hands. “I’m up! What’s going on?”

“Your parents are here,” Sam told me anxiously. “They heard about the date yesterday and they want to know why you ditched him.”

“Oh no,” I groaned. “What time is it?”

                He checked his watch.

                “Three o’clock. In the afternoon.”

“What?” I screeched, bolting up, eyes wide. “You let me sleep for that long?!”

“I’m sorry, you were just really tired!” he cried defensively, backing away from me. “They’re banging on the door. Should I let them in?”

“No,” I said, shaking my head. “I’ll get rid of them.”

I pulled back the sheets and stumbled onto my feet, stretching. Sam left the room swiftly. I walked over to the mirror and narrowed my eyes.

I didn’t remember being in my pyjamas last night...

Did he..? Did he undress me?!

“Sam, you perv! Get back here now!”

**

                “I hate him.”

                Mum frowned.

“Raj is a very sophisticated, intelligent, kind –“

                “I hate him.”

                Dad sighed.

                “What did he do?”

“If you knew what a dick he was being to me, you’d understand why I ditched him,” I said through gritted teeth. “He was half an hour late!”

“I’m sure he had a good reason,” Mum said quietly.

“He was helping his sister with her homework,” I said, clenching my fists. “I mean, what kind of dumbass excuse is that? It was such a lie!”

“But... we picked him because he was just like you!” Mum said desperately.

                “He was nothing like me.”

                “Katrina –“

“He was looking at another girl’s breasts while I was talking to him!”

Mum opened her mouth but then closed it when she realised she had absolutely nothing to say. She tried again but failed. She looked like a fish.

“That is the last time you’re interfering in my love life, okay?” I snapped, standing up and pointing to the door. “Out.”

“Katrina, please!” Mum begged. “We know this other man, you’ll love him –“

                “Out!” I shouted.

Sighing, they left the room. But as they walked back to their car, I heard Dad saying he’ll give the guy my number.

If he wasn’t my dad, I swear I would strangle him.
