"Can I take the blind-fold off yet?"
Sam had insisted on blindfolding me as we drove to this 'surprise' place. I hated not being able to see anything and hadn't let three seconds go by without asking the same question. Sam was starting to get a little irritated.
"No!" he sighed and I could just imagine him rolling his eyes. However, all I saw was black. "We're almost there, Katrina, so shut it!"
"Thanks," I huffed sarcastically, folding my arms across my chest and frowning.
Suddenly I felt the car come to a halt. It was so sudden that I jerked forwards and then was flung back into the seat because of the seatbelt wrapped firmly around my waist. I groaned as my back pained.
"Sorry," laughed Sam and the blindfold was taken off me. I stared ahead, mesmerised. Sand was the first thing I saw; a beautiful carpet of it. Then my eyes met the sea, and horror struck. Sam had taken me to the beach..? But I couldn't swim!
"I can't swim!" I shrieked and slapped Sam's hands away as he tried to un-do my seat belt. "Get off! I am not going in the sea! I don't even have a bathing suit."
Sam's eyes lit up mischeviously.
"I packed one, silly."
"Great," I moaned.

I carefully dipped my toe at an incoming wave and whimpered as my freezing water touched my foot. Like a wimp, I tried running away. Grinning, Sam grabbed my arm and gently pushed me back.
"I hate you," I told him flatly. "How was this supposed to cheer me up? Drowning me?!
"No!" he said, shaking his head and biting back another smile. "You're a grown woman and you can't swim, so I'm going to teach you."
I eyed the water suspiciously. It was freezing.
"I don't want to learn. I don't live in water!"
Sighing, he tightened his grip on my arm and pushed me into the water. The icy water actually burnt. I bit back another whimper and let him tug me. If I drowned, he would save me, right?
He was grinning evilly. That wasn't a good sign.
We kept walking until the water almost came up to our shoulders. I was so happy he stopped there; at least I could stand in it. I felt like an ice-cube though.
"Right. Bend down and try to float."
I stared at him blankly.
He actually had to bend my back forcefully and spread my arms and legs for me. As soon as he let go, I started flapping around like a chicken.
"Oh my God!" I cried, plunging. "I'm drowning! Sam! Help! Sam!"
He didn't budge. He just watched as I tried keep my feet up. It was so hard, my legs wouldn't stay up and my head went underwater various times. Eventually, I gave up, gasping and choking for breath.
"This is stupid! You're a rubbish teacher."
My hair was wet!
"Try again," said Sam, looking at me thoughtfully. "I'll help this time."
"I don't trust you. You might let me drown," I accused him, narrowing my eyes. He raised an eyebrow.
"Kat, how can you even drown? The water's up to your shoulders!"
"True," I said reluctantly. "Okay." I took a deep breath and waded deeper into the water until I couldn't stand anymore. Then I tried again.
Sam's finger grasped my waist and held me in position so I couldn't drown. Then, slowly, I spread out my arms and legs. My legs kicked and sprayed water all over Sam (which was pretty great) and my arms flapped.
It took about ten times to just scrape through it.
"I did it! I did it!"
Sam chuckled.
"Yeah, you did. And who's to thank?"
"Oh, I love you!" I cried, tackling him into a hug. He fell backwards into the water, pulling me down with him. I shrieked and bubbles came out of my mouth.
I still had a slight fear of water. But he definitely cheered me up.
Without thinking, while still underwater, I pressed my lips lightly against his. I pulled away, grinning, to find Sam's cheeks flaming. When we resurfaced, his words were garbled. Aw, how cute.
"You're so cute," I commented.
"Shut up."
Very cute.
