Chapter Thirteen

"The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything. ~ Albert Einstein"

>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<

Krissy is on a date with James right now. He likes her. A lot. I like him. A lot.

Krissy hung out with Vaineslina. Even after all the things she told me about her.

What is happening?

My cellphone rings interrupting my medley of thoughts.

"Hey mom. How is Mrs. Argent?"

"She is doing a lot better, honey. How about you? Did you take your medications that I left out on the kitchen table?"

"Yeah, I did. I feel a lot better. Thanks mom."

I lied. I wasn't very fond of tablets or any other artificial medications. They messed with my head.

"Okay honey, I'll be back for dinner. Melita is on her way home. Do catch up on the notes you missed today. Love you!"

"Love you too, mom."

I went into the kitchen as soon as I hung up on the call and threw the tablets into the bin.

The door opened instantly and Melita entered.

Oh finally, I was starving and after the incident that just happened two hours ago, I didn't even feel like cooking.

"Hey dear. I'll put in some snacks for you, okay?"

"Sure thing, Melita. Thanks."

I went upstairs and got into the shower.

I turned the knob to cold. It was so much better. I felt calm. Just like how I felt when I was at the beach.

My phone started ringing again. So I got out of the shower and put on a white towel.

I didn't recognize the caller id. Who is Jason? When did I even put his contact in?

I picked up.

"Hey, I know you're probably wondering who I am or how I got into your contact list. But I'm Jason. A friend of your mother's."

"My mother's friend? Mrs. Abbot? She has never mentioned you before."

"No. Your biological mother. Phoebe Selene."

"I'm sorry. I don't know what you're talking about. My biological mother is Mary Abbot. You're mistaken."

"No. Ask them if you don't believe me."

I instantly hung up the call. I was so weirded out. I didn't know what to do.

"Honey, I'm home."

It was my mom. Or was she?

I changed into a pink top and pajama, tied my hair up and ran down.

I was scared.

"Hey mom."

"Did you eat, honey?"

"No, not yet."

"Come and eat with me. We hardly ever get time to talk."

"Uh sure."

"Mom, can I ask you something"

"Sure, dear. Anything."

"Am I your biological daughter?"

My mom's face instantly changed from a happy face to a straight face and then to a frown.

I stood up unaware and scared of what her answer was going to be.

"I didn't want to tell you this way. But...I guess it's the best thing since your sixteenth birthday is in a few days.", My mother replied hesitantly.

"Mom, whatever your answer will be, I will still love you."

"Honey, you aren't my biological daughter but to me, you're my own. I love you just as any parent would love their own child.", she smiled at me. It was a very sad smile.

"Can you tell me where you adopted me from? I'm curious.", I was looking at her, still in a bit of shock.

"You're not mad at me, honey?"

"No, not really. I'm only sad that you didn't tell me this sooner. No matter what, mom, I still love you the same. You brought me up for all these years. I couldn't ever repay you for that.  So...I want to know all the deets!", I asked her with a smile on my face.

"Aww honey. We'll talk this over dinner, okay?"

"Uh sure. I'll go ask Melita if dinner is ready yet."

"Okay, I love you Evie."

That was the first time my mom called me by name in so many years.

I should've known then that something was wrong. I should've known not to turn my back and head to the kitchen. I should've stayed by her side.

I went to the kitchen and Melita wasn't there.

"Melita, is dinner ready?", I called out.

It clearly wasn't since there was a vessel on high heat with its contents spilling out at an increasing rate.

I switched off the electric stove and went back to the living room to ask mom about Melita.

"Mom, Melita just left the stove on high heat and went off to somewhere. How weird, right?", I said upon entering the room.

My mom had left too. She wasn't in the same spot that she was sitting in five minutes ago.

What were they up to?

I called my mom's cellphone but it was busy. Same with Melita's too.

I got some beef jerky from the fridge and went upstairs to my room.

My room was in a mess. I didn't do all this. It looked as if someone had broken into my room and was looking for something.

Just then, I noticed my mirror.

In big bold red, probably with lipstick,  was written;

Focus on your path. You have to lead the war or else, your family will be in danger.

Who would do such a thing? And why?

I don't know if anyone reads these author's notes anymore but,
I have a serious case of jetlag right now. I've been travelling continuously for the past two weeks. I wish I could hibernate like a bear but instead, for like umm...forever! But then, how would I update my book hehe 😂

Oh and I also graduated high school this April so yay!

However I'm in University so it will mean slow updates. Thanks for all your support and for sticking around for all this time.
