Chapter Ten - The Little Things

I woke up the next day at six in the morning for school.

Krissy was still sleeping in the next room. I didn't want to wake her for school today so I sneaked out quietly. She needed to rest.

"Buenos dias, Melita.", I greeted my wonderful housekeeper. She was like a second mom to me.

"Buenos dias, Evey. How is Krissy darlin'?", she asked with a concerned look etched on her face.

"She is still sleeping. If she wakes, just give her some aspirin and lemon water."

This had happened before so it had become sort of a routine. A bad routine. Something that I shouldn't have gotten used to.

"Ma'am, the car is ready. Do you want to leave now?", our new butler, Adams, informed, interrupting my thoughts.

"Yeah sure. Thanks. Have a nice day Melita.", I waved to her before leaving.

"You too, dearie.", she replied, smiling.

I went over to my locker and put in my code. I have English first. That is nice. It'll take my mind off things.

The corridors weren't that crowded today as it was almost spring break and those who were staying in hostels, left for home to meet their family.

Class was empty except for a couple of kids and.... James.

He was sitting on the last bench and he waved at me to come and sit next to him.

I thought it was me...but as soon as I made my way there, someone pulled me from behind and just casually sat in the place that I was supposed to sit in.

None other than...Vain.

James had a scowl on his face while looking at Vain but she just had that creepy, victory smirk on her face.

This is just great. I do the walk of shame back down and sit in one of middle rows.

In school, for some reason, everyone avoided the front benches like it was the plague.

"Good morning everyone. Let's get into today's lesson.", Mrs. Jensen greeted, entering the class.

"Good morning ma'am.", we all sang in a sing-song voice.

"Alright, who can tell me what do the three Ts stand for?", Mrs. Jensen.

I think my hand was the first to jump up because Mrs. Jensen told me to stand and explain them.

"Well, the three Ts stand for their, they're and there. Their is used when you say something belongs to someone. They're is used when you are referring to what a group of people are doing or other details about them. There is used to indicate a particular place.", I ended up my explanation with a huge smile on my face.

"That is exactly correct Ms. Evelyn. Now, class please take down these notes...", she stated.

After class ended, I packed up my things and was leaving.

"Ms, Evelyn, may I have a word with you?", Mrs. Jensen stopped me before leaving.

"Yes ma'am. Sure.", I replied and set down my things on her table while she notioned for me to take a seat.

I sat down on the seat next to hers and kept silent, allowing her to continue what she had wanted to convey.

"Here is the thing. There is an National Story Writing Competition coming up in our town. It's based on the country as a whole. Participants from all around the country will be taking part.", she paused, waiting for my response.
