I found myself stealing glances at Alexander, who was seated beside me. His attention was fully absorbed by the TV as he chuckled at something on the screen. I couldn't help but notice how his attractiveness seemed to amplify when he smiled or laughed, a fact that wasn't lost on me despite my attempts to remain indifferent. It struck me as ironic that he claimed not to be fond of watching TV, yet here he was, thoroughly engrossed in the show I had chosen. Which is Friends. His genuine laughter was infectious, and I couldn't help but feel a tug of amusement myself. Despite my reservations, I found myself inexplicably drawn to him. Perhaps it was the contrast between his stoic exterior and the glimpses of warmth and humor he displayed when he smiled. Or maybe it was simply the allure of the unknown, the tantalizing prospect of exploring a connection with someone unexpected. Yet, amidst the fleeting moments of attraction, I reminded myself of the complexities of my own life. There was little room for indulging in fantasies or distractions, especially when faced with the challenges and responsibilities that weighed heavily on my shoulders.

With a resigned sigh, I turned my attention back to the TV, allowing the laughter and camaraderie of the moment to wash away any lingering thoughts of what-ifs and maybes. After all, in the tumultuous journey of life, sometimes it was easier to simply enjoy the present moment without dwelling on what could have been.

Earlier, while we were eating, he shared a little about himself. My mind got stuck on the first thing he said about the girl he loved so much. I don't know why, but when he said that, I felt a pang of sadness. Because I saw the sadness and longing in his eyes firsthand. How lucky that girl must be, right? She has Alexander, who possesses all the qualities women desire in a man. I asked him where the girl he loves is, but he just looked at me and the only thing he said that confused me was, "I saw her again—but in someone else." What did he mean by that phrase? I'm confused. Who? Where is the girl he loves? Did they break up? Hmm— He shouldn't be here if he has a girlfriend. After he said that, I didn't attempt to ask further because I felt awkward. With every word he spoke, he kept his gaze fixed on my eyes.

I glanced at the clock hanging on the wall in our living room, then turned to Alexander.

"Um, aren't you going home? It's already nine o'clock," I said. He looked at me, then shrugged.

"No, because you're alone," he said seriously, still focused on the TV.

"B-but I'm used to being alone here at home on weekends. It's Stella's habit not to come home on weekends, so you can go. I'm okay now, I'm feeling better, and I'm grateful to you," I said with a smile.

"If you're feeling sleepy, just go to bed," he said. "But I can't just leave a girl who has just recovered from being sick and is alone in her house," he added, his words making me stare at him in surprise.

"Um, why are you doing this to me?" I asked.

"What do you mean?" He turned to look at me.

"All of this—your kindness and help. You said there's a catch to all the help you've been giving me. What is it? I want to know so I can be prepared for whatever it is you want in return. If I can give it," I said, seriously. He just stared at me intently. He smiled faintly, then slowly raised his hand and rested it on my head. I lowered my head and played with my fingers.

"Aesha, I won't ask for anything you can't give me in return," he said, tapping my head. I looked at him again. He was looking straight at me. He won't ask for anything I can't give him? he doesn't need financial help. It's also unlikely he needs help with school since he seems intelligent. Perhaps—oh my god, Aesha. Stop thinking like that. I scolded myself internally.

I glanced at Alexander. "Do--Do you want my body?" I blurted out, immediately covering my mouth. Why are you thinking like that? What's wrong with you? You're embarrassing yourself. Please, earth, swallow me now!
