AESHA

I walked quietly towards the campus. I was with Stella earlier on our way to school, but she needed to go to the auditorium for a meeting. I had two books with me. They weren't thick, so they were easy to carry. I'll drop them off at the library. I could hear the noise of other students sitting on the benches. Almost everyone studying here comes from wealthy families. Rich. Influential.

As I walked along the pathway, I caught the attention of Bomi and Cheska, along with Carrie. They were in the oval practicing cheering. I didn't know what they wanted from me. I didn't know why they had such animosity towards me. Ever since I entered here, they've always been picking on me. I never fought back because I knew I didn't stand a chance against them. I was looking at them from the side of the pathway, so I accidentally bumped into someone. I ended up sitting on the ground, and my book fell. The impact was strong, or maybe I'm just clumsy and weak.

"Sorry," I apologized as I stood up. I looked up, and my eyes widened when I saw who I bumped into. I quickly picked up the book and stood up. I kept bowing repeatedly, asking for forgiveness. "Sorry, I didn't—." I couldn't finish what I was saying as he just walked past me. What was I expecting anyway? I sighed deeply, and as I was about to step forward, I heard the shout of a familiar voice.

"Aesha?!" I turned around, and indeed, it was Kyler calling me. Despite feeling sad, I still smiled at Kyler. He ran towards me. I looked around for Alexander, but he quickly disappeared.

"Good morning," I greeted him with a smile as he approached me. "I'm sorry I didn't ask for a ride from you." He laughed at what I said. Kyler always accompanies me, but this morning I felt like I didn't want to ask for a ride from him. I felt awkward all of a sudden.

"How many times do I have to tell you... I have to serve you, Aesha," he said with a smile. We were still standing on the pathway. I felt like someone was watching us. "So, shall we? Are you going to the library, right?" I nodded. He immediately took my book and carried it. I was about to protest, but I knew Kyler. He doesn't like being stopped. I just smiled at him, and we walked together towards the pathway.

As we walked, I could hear whispers. Even if they didn't say it out loud, I knew they were talking about me and Kyler. We've also talked about Alexander and what he told me, but I couldn't bring myself to tell them that Alexander kissed me on the lips. I feel uncomfortable. Because the night Alexander came to the house was the same night Kyler came. But it was already dawn, and I was wide awake then. I couldn't sleep because of what Alexander did, but I tried to push it away and forget what he said and did to me.

"How are you and Alexander?" I asked him as we were entering the library.

"He's not avoiding me anymore, but he's not talking to me either," he said as he looked at me. We were going up the stairs.

"Is that so? I hope things will get better between you two, right?"

"Don't worry. His anger will pass. Wait, how about you two?"

"We bumped into each other on the pathway earlier," I said with a slight smile, "but he didn't acknowledge me. He just turned away." Kyler suddenly linked his arm with mine. Whenever he does that, I feel lighter.

"Let's just leave him for now," I nodded. "I have a question."

"Sure, what is it?"

"Has my courting been affected... I mean, do I still have a chance? Especially now that you know how Alexander feels." I stopped walking, and so did he. We were only one floor away from reaching the library. He let go of his arm around me. There were no students at this hour. I'm always the first one to enter the library.
