My knees bouncing up and down as my hands cradle my phone in my lap, I wasn't nearly paying attention to our Monday morning counselling session.
A hand was suddenly placed on my knees, forcing me to stop. I shiver as I look up Grayson, the first time I'm looking at him since Friday.
He did not look like he had a good weekend, bags under his eyes, tired eyes and you can see the world resting on his shoulders.
He pleads me to stop with his eyes, I nod. I mean we don't really look any different. Same bags, same tiredness.
"So Rebecca, how is your family?" Mrs Taylor questions.
My eyes drift off of Grayson's and onto Mrs Taylor. I shrug tiredly.
"Adam is back, Mason barley talks to any of us now. We're broken and we can't get back up" Mrs Taylor sighs.
"Your going to your therapist today, correct?" I nod "great I think it'll be great if you talk about what has happened during past weekend" I nod once more, words not being able to form in my head.
I look out the window excepting Mason to be waiting outside like he always does, I wrong. Instead the main room of the guidance counsellor rooms were empty, sadly.
"You two are dismissed" Mrs Taylor announces making me snap my head back to her. She nods again before we collect our things.
I search the empty halls in looks of my older brother, nothing.
"He probably slept in late" Grayson tells me readjusting his backpack as he looks around the empty halls as well.
"Mason is an early bird like me, he's avoiding me that's why" I say, "just like he's avoiding everyone else in my family" I scoff as we pass the wall that was covered with a large window.
I take a look outside, stopping from walking, also stopping Grayson. I squint as I see a boy running the track but then I noticed it wasn't any other boy.
It was my brother. Running from his problems, literally.
"Aren't you going to go talk to him?" Grayson questions, now in front of me. I shake my head.
As much as Mason and I are like second pairs of twins, I know better not to provoke him when he's already been provoked. Especially by dad.
Grayson shrugs as I walk past him, making my way to the locker.
"So ready for the Captain's war this week?" he questions, I give him a pointed look. Does it look like I'm ready for Captain's war.
"Do you have to ask me that?" I question him with a smile. He raises his arms in surrender.
Captain's War. A war between each school captain, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, hockey, cheer and of course football.
Each captain can do anything, pull pranks, provoke them anything they liked too. It's amazing to see what each captain comes up with.
When Grayson and I became captains the school and the other captains would let us two battle it out, and this year I was going to win. Grayson and I won evenly two-two.
"Sorry, it's just with all this happening, I'd thought you'd forget " He says gently. I laugh shaking me head.
"I'd never forget" I announce, he shrugs.
I open up my locker, "I 'm just going to say this now, that I won't be going on easy on you just because I have recently been going through some shit." I say slamming my locker shut, pulling my morning textbooks to my chest.
