We were down to the last four minutes of the semi finals, everyone was on edge. Especially me, Grayson wasn't playing like himself and that made me more nervous.
Both teams hut, Grayson signals the play and before I could even blink the QB of West High had tackled Grayson. I jump up from my seat on the bench,my hand covering my mouth. The school becomes quiet as the other QB gets up from Grayson and dusting himself off with a successful smile.
My eyes couldn't leave Grayson as he try's to get back up,he rolls over on his knees, clutching his stomach. He proceeds to get up but falls again.
I look over to dad, who was actually at this game for once. He looked stressed, a hand running over his face. I walk over to him "dad you have to call it, look he's hurt" My father looks at me, then gives me a sighing nod.
He mentions the school nurses over, I follow them and my father towards Grayson who was being crowded.
I wince at the site of him, he had ripped off his helmet and his face was drenched in sweat. The paramedics place him on a stretcher and carefully lead him off the field and into the locker rooms.
"Can he still play?" I question Nurse Brad, crossing my arms across my chest. I shouldn't be in the boys locker room but I didn't care.
"He's banged up pretty bad, I'd say no Coach but it's Mr Clark's call really" Nurse Brad informs us. I sigh looking away from our conversation and into the room across from me where Grayson was laying down in the mid dark.
"I'll talk to him, dad you talk to the team" My father hesitates at first but then agrees
I open the door "please leave me alone" Grayson's hoarse voice echoes in the nearly empty room.
"Can't be pushed away that easily, you should know that" I scoff.
Grayson removes his arm that was covering his eyes, he narrows his eyes at me before shutting them again.
I take a seat on the chair placed beside the bed "I still wanna play" he announces quietly.
"Why? Grayson their going to knock you down even more. Theres four minutes left" I tell him.
He opens his eyes again, finally making eye contact.
"Do you wanna know why I still wanna play?" he questions, I nod.
"Every year since grade four, Ryder would take me to our's schools semi finals because your dad was the coach. Ryder always said its not about the finals it's about the semi finals because your a step closer to having a great feeling about yourself after you win semi. So if we win tonight I'll be a step closer to Ryder"
I was confused at first, then shocked.I never expected him to say something like that "So winning semi is for Ryder?"
He nods slowly "it's always been for Ryder" I nod as silence escapes "So please don't tell me again that I shouldn't play, because if your with or not with me I'm going to play"
"Make it for Ryder." I state, he gives me his original smirk.

There was a minute left in the game, and I've never been so nervous in my life. We were currently making the crowd pumped up with a few cheers before they hut. After a few seconds of cheering the finally minute begins. Both teams hut and I can see the QB of West High about to charge. Our schools crowd was going crazy you could barely hear Grayson call hut.
