It was a slow week, Dad had let us stay home all week if we wanted, obviously I had stayed home grieving my youngest brother.

A knock on the door brought me back to reality of Ryder's door. I sat in the middle of my twins bedroom throwing away or keeping things. We had decided as a family that we should spring clean our whole house, even if it was just the beginning of winter.

"Come in" I answer, moving away an empty box. The old door squeaked as Grayson stepped in, his eyes hold sadness as he walks in to his best friends room for the first time in years.

"Wow, you guys barely touched it" he says reminiscing around Ryder's room.

"Kept it the way he left it, couldn't even walk into his room until now actually" I mumble.

I could see Grayson in the corner of my eye looking at all the hockey pictures and trophies. Grayson had played hockey but quit the week right after, he and Ryder were the it team. They helped each other out on the ice, they had each other's backs.

They did everything together, and now I'm not even sure who Grayson is.

"So you guys are spring cleaning" Grayson puts air quotes around spring cleaning. I nod.

"I'm getting rid of Ryder's thing, My dad is for my mom, and Nick is for Jacks" I mutter, going through more of Ryder's hockey things.

Grayson nods, still looking around his best friends room. I come across Ryder's hockey jersey, number seven.

I sigh pulling the thing out of the box and onto my lap "I still have my jersey." Grayson says.

I look over my shoulder to see him sitting in Ryder's neatly made bed. I sigh "Number seventeen right?" He nods.

"Why didn't you pick seventeen for football? You picked seven?"

"I picked seven because it means I still have Ryder playing beside me" I look away from him.

"so you ready for semi finals?" I question, slipping on one of Ryder's under armour hoodies.

I sit up rubbing my knees, I take a seat beside Grayson, who was rubbing his hands.

He nods "y-yea I guess" my brow raises.

"Okay, what's up? You've never been worried for a football game or any game in your life" I question he sighs looking around.

"I don't know, I've got a lot on my mind right now. I just need time to think" he explains getting up. I follow suit watching him slowly race out of Ryder's room and into the messy hallway.

He continues downstairs, not before getting confused and worried looks from my brothers and father.

"Grayson, hold it" I stop him from opening the door.

"Jones? Don't start please" He begs, I release my hand that was stopping him from walking out of my door.

He nods before giving me one last look and walking out to his car.

A give a sad smile to a distant relative I hadn't seen in a few months, since mom's funeral.

"I'm so sorry dear, this must be very hard on you and your family" She gives me her sympathy and it's not something I've heard before.

"He's in a better place" I reassure her, she nods before telling me she's gonna go say hello to my father.

I scout around the small gathering for Jacks. Everyone was here, his friends, friends parents, teachers, family, our friends. The family I'm looking for hasn't arrived yet.
