It feels very important for me to acknowledge the previous post from Laceandpaperflowers . I do not wish to drag this story or our friendship into the beautiful world created here and I certainly would not want all of  you to feel part of the things that are going on in our friendship or our lives. I just wanted to say that I love her dearly and I appreciate everything she has helped me accomplish. Please know that we would not be here, all the way on chapter 29, without her. She is a great person, friend and writer and I encourage you to read her works of art as well. I hope all of you continue to enjoy Turning Tables as much as I love writing it and I hope that Amy will want to join in and contribute to Turning Tables again in the future.

End of August 1999

When Stevie awoke in the hospital, Lindsey was asleep with his head on her bed. She rested her hand on the back of his head and he lifted it quickly.

"You're finally awake," he said, as he took the back of her hand and kissed it over and over.

She smiled at him as he got her a drink of water. Once she was able to speak she asked, "where's Lizzie? Is she okay?"

Lindsey nodded, "she is perfectly healthy. She weighs seven pounds and nine ounces. She's asleep in the nursery right now. They wouldn't let me take her home without you."

"What happened to me?" She asked, not entirely certain she wanted to know.

"You lost a lot of blood and had to have emergency surgery, but you're okay now," he reassured her.

Stevie nodded and smiled a little, "can I please see Lizzie?"

"Absolutely. I'll go get her now."

Lindsey came back quickly with their baby girl. He gently handed her over to her mother, who was already crying.

"I can't believe how beautiful she is."

"Well," Lindsey said, "she looks just like you."

Stevie blushed, "you're only being nice to me because I had your baby and then almost died."

"Don't joke about that. You scared the shit out of us."

"I'm sorry," she said as she kissed her daughter's forehead and played with her tiny hands. "How long was I out?"

"Four days," Lindsey said.

"God, things must have been bad."

"They certainly weren't good, but you have a lot of people here who were rooting for you to get better. The band is here. So is your family. You have a packed house."

Stevie laughs, "they didn't have to come all this way. I'm fine."

Lindsey shrugs, "well we didn't know that four days ago. God, Steph, I was so scared."

"Linds, you really don't need to worry. I feel okay. I'm just a little tired."

"How about you take a little nap? I can take Lizzie back to the nursery." He suggested.

Stevie shook her head, "I want her to stay with me." She rested the baby comfortably against her chest, "you should go home and get some rest though."

"Are you insane? I'm not leaving you," he said.

Stevie laughed and moved over as far as she could in her hospital bed. "Come nap with us, then."
