I feel that this is important to address: I am not, in any way, trying to make this story all about sex. I just think it's important to deal with it because I think (based on events and heresy), that sex remained a huge part of their relationship for a very long time. That being said, I believe (and of course this is just my opinion), that they used sex as an outlet for their feelings, whether those feels be love, hate or something in between.
June 1976
Stevie walked into the studio with her sunglasses on and her hair pulled up haphazardly. It reminded Lindsey of the way she would look when she got home from the diner and she would lie on the couch for hours and listen to him play guitar.
This wasn't 1974, though, and he was pretty sure she looked that way because she'd had too much alcohol and cocaine the night before. He knew she hadn't left the studio until the early hours of the morning, because he was the one who drove her to the place she was sharing with Christine.
"You're late, babe," Lindsey said. He tried to be calm and kind. He wasn't in the mood for another fight today.
"Must have missed my alarm," she replied, brushing past him and going to talk quietly to Mick.
John was tuning his bass and Lindsey sat down to tune his own guitar.
"Trouble in paradise, mate?" John asked. He didn't always respect the way Lindsey handled business, but he still liked him as a friend and fellow band mate.
"No, it's just....you know," Lindsey said dismissively, waving his hands in the air.
Lindsey knew there was going to be a fight today. He could feel it coming the same way you could feel a storm rolling in. Perhaps he should just leave for the day before it started raining.
"Steph, are you ready to get started?" Lindsey asked.
She looked at him, hand on her hip as if she had some type of witty retort, but instead she put her bag down and said, "yeah, Linds, I'm ready."
That was all it took to get her into the recording booth and they worked for hours that day.
When they wrapped, Lindsey headed over to Stevie and pulled her close to kiss her. She kissed him back, pulling his head down to hers to reduce the height difference.
"Do you want to go out tonight? Just the two of us?" He asked when they pulled away from each other.
"I'd love to, but I already made plans."
"Plans for what?"
She shrugged, "just to go to a party. You're welcome to come."
He shook his head in disbelief, "why? So I can watch my girlfriend get high and throw her life away?"
"Oh please, Lindsey, it's not like you've never done it!"
"Not like you! And what if...." He shook his head, "never mind."
"No!" She yelled, "go ahead and say it!"
Lindsey's voice became soft and gentle, "what if maybe we get a second chance at that baby?"
Stevie rolled her eyes, "we're not poor anymore, Lindsey. I can afford birth control and I don't want a fucking baby!"
He sat down and didn't say anything for a long while, "you don't want a baby ever or with me?"
She slid into his lap so that they were face to face and held his face in her hands, "I only want a baby with you. I just don't think now is the right time."
