One last update tonight, then that'll be it for this weekend!
After a few more words of encouragement, Papyrus was ready. He walked back into the kitchen, where Mettaton was agressively cleaning dishes. He paused by the doorway.
"Metta?" His voice was unusually quiet; he was afraid to upset him. "I thought about it a lot, and-"
"And?!" Mettaton whipped around, face lit up with glee and excitement. "You'll move in with me?"
Papyrus didn't hesitate to nod. "Yes! Yes I'll move in with you!"
They say cheetahs are the fastest land mammals by far. They forgot about Mettaton when he's happy, because in a single movement, he skipped over and embraced Papyrus. "Oh darling this is wonderful~! I've been so lonely!"
Papyrus laughed, loud and clear and happy. "I'll be happy to be your company and keep you from loneliness!" His arms wound their way around his lover.
Mettaton pecked his cheek. "What about Sans? Will he be okay with it?" His eyes showed concern, but very restrained joy as well.
"He helped me decide! He's 100% for it!" Was his reply.
"Well I wouldn't say 100%..." A familiar voice drifted in from the living room. "But I agree, it would be good for Papyrus to get out of this apartment."
"Oh gosh-" Mettatons voice dropped to a whisper, an excited whisper. He looked up into Papyrus's eyes and grinned cheekily. "This is exciting! Are you coming over tonight or once you move your stuff over?"
"Um..." The fear pumped through him again and he found his mouth dry. "When I get my stuff moved in."
"Awh, you sure?"
He nodded. "Definitely."
--
"What about this color?"
"Too bright, nah."
"It's a baby, you really want dark colors, really Sans?"
Only a few days after their final agreement to move in together, they were hanging at the family apartment like usual. Sans and Toriel, also like usual, we're arguing over little things.
"No, but bright yellow hurts my eyes! The baby isn't going to want to lay on bright yellow blankets!" Sans retorted.
Toriel sighed, resulting in a few giggles from Mettaton and Papyrus. "How about pink?" Mettaton suggested.
"But what if it's a boy?" Toriel looked over at them.
Mettaton paused, a slight tender subject having been breached. "Colors are gender neutral." Was his firm, almost angry response.
"How about light purple, then?" Papyrus cut in.
Toriel looked at Sans, who shrugged. "Purple is okay with me. Not too light though."
Toriel shifted the color swatches. "How about sunrise orchid?"
"Uhhh is that light purple?"
Toriel giggled. "Yes Sans. It's light purple." She handed it to him.
Mettaton turned away from the scene, to Papyrus. "Well dear, they're getting pretty serious about painting the room. Maybe you should move in before they do." It was meant to sound playful, but came out kind of forceful.
Papyrus shrugged and draped his arm across Mettatons shoulders. "It'll be soon, don't worry! I just have a lot to pack, you know, all my trinkets and pictures, and action figures, and cooking utensils, and pots and pans, and-"
Mettaton placed a finger on his mouth to shut him up. "Can't we just buy all the things new when you move in?"
He hesitated. "I guess....but I've had these things for all my life! They're special! Look!" He bounced away and opened up a cupboard, producing a big stained metal pot in turn.
"This is the pot I cooked my first real spaghetti in! It's been there for me for ages..." He picked up a similar, larger pot.
"And this pot over here is the pot I was born in!"
"WHA-?!" Mettaton sputtered.
But Papyrus kept going. "This fork I once cut my hand on, and with this knife I played pirates with Sans! And this spoon-"
Again, Mettaton cut him off with a laugh. "Papy, I understand. But if we take everything, Sans and Toriel and company won't have anything. Besides, we should be making new memories."
Papyrus looked around the kitchen. The realization suddenly hit of just how much he'd be leaving behind. He'd be leaving behind the kids, his brother, his favorite pot, the birthing pot, his favorite rug, his cat mug. Everything.
"I suppose...."
"You can always take a few things if you want! I understand this might be hard for you, love." Mettaton gently took his hand.
"Okay!" He brightened up. "Can I take my favorite fork?"
"If you want, dear."
