I'm having so much fun with this story so I'll update frequently this weekend.
And so it began. Over the course of the next week, Papyrus didn't see Mettaton at all. Sans had gotten his way and Papyrus was too busy working for any social time.
Toriel plastered signs around town, advertising the café and trying to make their products better, while Sans took on two more jobs reluctantly, and Papyrus four. Each day was a mess of getting up at 6 and rushing from place to place, with not a rest until very late. Their food was cheap and their hearts were lonely with no children running around.
After a week of non-stop working for the bare minimum wage, of 3 hours of sleep a night and very cheap food, Papyrus was close to breaking down. He'd never worked so hard in his life, and he was a very hard worker to begin with.
The details were fuzzy to him, all Papyrus could remember was stumbling home around 3 one morning, tired and sore. He missed Asriel, Frisk and Chara and he missed not having to worry so much, he needed sleep and his body wasn't willing to wait. He collapsed.
When he awoke, a very nice jazz music whispered into his ear. A soft couch cushioned his back and his face ached where he had fallen. A small maniacal part of him told him he'd been kidnapped and that it was all over, but a more relaxed part told him he was safe.
A gentle voice hummed to the music, not too far away. They sang very quietly and very pretty as well. The sound soothed Papyrus as he came too.
His eyes opened to a rather flashy apartment. Very flashy and very messy but also very cozy. There were plants hanging from every corner and magazines draped on any available surface. The room smelled like...cinnamon.
"Mettaton...?" Papyrus called out, not in the least bit doubtful on who had taken him in.
"In here!" Came his pleasant voice from the adjacent room.
Papyrus pulled himself off the sequined couch and walked over to the room. Inside it, Mettaton was lounged in a desk chair, scrolling on a laptop.
He looked up and smiled when Papyrus walked in. "Why good morning. You've been out for a while."
Papyrus smiled very briefly before the panic set in. "Good mo--wait it's morning?!" His eyes widened. "I'm late for work, I'm--!"
Mettaton stood up and walked over to him, revealing very nice long legs clad in only shorts. "Shush darling, it'll be fine."
"No no no you don't understand I need this money!" He scrambled from the room, looking for where his scarf had fallen off.
Mettaton frowned and followed him. "Why is this job so important? I'm sure if you miss one day you're not gonna get fired. Besides, you have the café!"
"It's money lost, Mettaton! But you're so rich I'm sure you wouldn't understand what it's like to be dirt poor!" Papyrus snapped, regretting it a second later.
Mettatons eyes widened and he looked hurt. "I-I....sorry. You're welcome for saving you." He walked back into his bedroom and slammed the door shut. "Metta wait-!"
Papyrus sighed. If he had any more time he would have stayed to make things right, but money was on the line so he left.
