Walk in the park - Beach House

(Older Josh/younger Tyler)
###

Tyler could hear his heartbeat racing. He stood in front of the mirror, combing his hair to the left. He turned around, examining his look from every possible angle before deciding to comb it to the right instead. His movements were robotic, slow and plain as he tried to make sure he looked absolutely perfect.

"Shit," he cursed, tousling his hair when he realised it was too little too late to do it any longer, because the doorbell rang. "Just a second."

It didn't take long for him to walk from his bedroom to the front door of his tiny apartment. He stared at his black sneakers against the tiled floor, taking a deep breath to flush the heat from his cheeks. It only managed to rise further when he unhooked the deadbolt and found Josh on the other side holding a bottle in his hand. Tyler smiled warmly, ushering Josh inside.

"Thanks," Josh leaned in to kiss Tyler. It wasn't deep or erotic but Tyler couldn't help but lean forward and press his chest to Josh's for those brief moments. "I stopped by the grocery store and figured maybe you'd want some wine."

"Yeah, uh," Tyler said, taking the bottle in his hand to look at the label even though he really wasn't picky with what he drank. "Yeah, that's great. I ordered Chinese. My lectures ran a bit late today so I didn't really have time to cook myself."

"It's fine, I'm starving anyways." Josh followed Tyler into the kitchen and took a seat where his open box of noodles sat, picking at them with chopsticks while Tyler dug through his cabinets for two wine glasses.

"How are your classes going?" Josh's brown eyes stared at Tyler, who eventually seated himself after pouring Josh some wine. "Pretty shitty," Tyler chided. "Advanced English bites ass and I've fallen behind on chemistry a bit. My friend Melanie said she'd tutor me a bit when she's free though but I haven't seen her much lately."

"Hm, you should focus on your studies a bit more. It's pretty important. You can't really afford to have any distractions." Josh watched as Tyler rolled the glass around a bit, seeing the red wine sway rhythmically in the glass before he placed it to his lips and downed the entire glass in one go.

"Distractions like you?" Tyler didn't meet Josh's gaze and dug his chopsticks through the chicken noodles, picking apart the meat. "If I'm a distraction then yes. We don't have to see each other ever day."

"We don't see each other every day," Tyler retorted.

"Well, not every day, but you have to admit that you're not applying yourself as much as you should be."

The air became still and silent until Tyler reached for the bottle and poured himself another full glass of wine.

"Isn't that a bit much?" Tyler's eyes casually glanced up at Josh before he shut them and tilted his head back, downing a second glass of wine like someone stranded in the desert.

"What does it matter?" Josh was taken aback by the bluntness of Tyler's response and instead focused on his noodles. They were both absentmindedly picking through their boxes. "What it matters is that I came here to spend the evening with you and you're not exactly being very welcoming."

"Just the evening, right? Can't spend the night again, Josh?" Tyler half smiled, laying his box on the table. "Gotta be back by midnight so the wife and kids aren't suspicious? What's today's excuse Josh? Boss asked you to stay in late? Grabbing a drink with your buddies?"

"I don't have to take this,"

"But I do, right? Whichever way you want to give it." Tyler chortled, now staring at Josh whose eyes had gone cold as they stared back at him. "I'm just a whore right? The missus at home won't put out so you call me when you need a quick fuck."

Josh pulled the napkin to his mouth, wiping it clean as he rose to his feet. The chairs wooden leg scraped the floor as it was moved aside. "I think I'll show myself out."

Tyler couldn't get his eyes off the wedding ring on Josh's finger as they exchanged glances, with Josh eventually breaking their gaze to walk out of the kitchen. Tyler remained frozen as his burning eyes fought to contain his emotions. He kicked his chair back and bolted for the door before Josh could leave.

"Josh," Tyler shouted, immediately regretting everything he had said. He tugged at Josh's arm before the man could leave his apartment. "Josh I'm sorry. I know I'm being full of shit. I didn't mean to say that stuff about-"

"-my family?" Josh said, finishing Tyler's sentence. He turned around to face Tyler who could no longer meet his stare. "You know that she's probably doing the exact same thing right now." Tyler nodded silently, pursing his lips into a thin line to stop them trembling. As much as he hated how things were, he'd hate himself more if Josh left him.

"You know Tyler, I don't need you to make me feel like a piece of shit for being with you. She's the one that broke my trust. The only reason I haven't left her is because of our kids. I really don't need any fucking crap from you. I came here to get away from all of that."

"I know. I'm sorry, Josh."

"You're sorry?" Josh faked a smile, shaking his head as he yanked his arm from Tyler's grasp and turned back to the door.

"Josh, don't go!" Tyler pleaded. "I'm sorry, please don't leave me. I need you." Frantically, Tyler spun Josh around and placed his lips against Josh's. Tyler's lips were soft and trembling whilst Josh's were unresponsive. "Please Josh."

Tyler pressed his chest to Josh's, biting back his sobs as he stuck his tongue into Josh's mouth and felt Josh's hands firmly grasp his ass and hoist him up. His legs locked around Josh's waist, hands planted on his cheeks while he slowly grinded into it. It didn't matter to Tyler what he had to do to keep Josh with him. It didn't matter that he had to make appointments to be with Josh and have him sneak away from his family. Tyler needed Josh more than anything, and he just couldn't stand to lose the only person in his life that mattered to him.
