Kario.

Coach was really on edge about this upcoming game. We were playing Carmen Ainsworth tomorrow, last week Central lost so coach is adamant about coming out victorious. Usually practice ended at four but he made us stay an extra two hours to make sure we had all the plays down and even made us run two miles.

He finally blew the whistle and we collapsed on the ground, panting. Blake, Chevy and I sat in a circle on the grass downing the gatorade and talking about random shit.

"Y'all going to the party after the game?" Blake asked.

I shrugged. "I might but you when central niggas come together, niggas don't know how to act so I might leave 'fore shit pop off."

"You ain't neva lie." Chevy chuckled. "Me and LeLe might go to fright dome after that."

"Word? I wonder if Aja like shit like that."

"She do, but she scarier then a motherfucka." Chevy laughed.

"Its getting cold, now y'all niggas wanna start cuffing and shit." Blake added his two cents in, as always.

Chevy and I laughed. "You just mad that broad from the mall stopped talking to you because you used her to get to her friend."

He smirked. "Her friend was bad as hell thou'."

Chevy and I shook our heads as we all got up from the ground and walked into the locker room. I didn't bother showering because I intended on going straight home, well until I spotted Ajalon talking to some of her friends.

"Wassup boo?" I smiled wrapping my arm around her waist.

"Sweetheart, I am not your boo." She winked.

"Its aight, baby I know you wanna keep it lowkey."

She giggled covering my mouth with her hand which only prompted me to lick it then she laughed harder wiping it on my shirt.

"Kario are y'all gon' win the game this Friday?" Ajalon's friend Fallon asked.

"You doubting our skills?" I retorted back with a slight smile.

"I'm just asking because y'all last game was a hot mess."

We all erupted in laughter. I didn't take her criticism personal because our last game was sloppy but we all take fault for that.

"Don't worry about last game lil' mama because we got this."

"Aight." She threw up her hands and laughed.

Her friends waved bye so it was just her and I in the lonely hallway. She bit her lip nervously like she had something to tell me.

"Wassup guh? Why you fidgeting?"

Ajalon sighed. "I won't be able to make it to your game. I'm so sorry but something came up."

I was kind of disappointed but you gotta do what gotta sometimes.

"Its straight, boo. It'll be other games." I smiled slipping my arms around her waist as we rocked from side to side while staring into one another's eyes. Ajalon quickly looked away as she giggled.

"Where you going?" I asked because she kept trying to wiggle her way out of my arms while I tried to keep her close to my chest.

"I don't know." Ajalon shrugged.

I licked my lips as she pressed our bodies together and I leaned my head down so our faces were close. Just as she was about to let me kiss her Blake brought cock blockin' ass over.

"The fuck you doing wit' my girl?" Blake playfully demanded snatching Ajalon out of my arms and holding her waist with one of his arms.

"Baby, he tried to kiss me." Ajalon childish ass pouted playing along with his him.

I shook my head, "Y'all childish asses."

They broke out into laughter then we all walked to the parking lot and I walked Ajalon to her car then held open the door as she slid her petite body in the seat.

"Call me when you get home?" She asked looking up at me.

"Fa'sho, ma."

She smiled then I closed the door and she peeled out of the parking lot and down then street. I got back in my car then drove home seeing Chevy's car wasn't in the drive way I assumed he was still out with Jubilee. I grabbed my bags from the back seat then climbed out of the car and up the sidewalk to the front door. As I entered the foyer I heard slight whispers but he couldn't make out the voices. When I reached the living room where the voices came from they immediately stopped and I was shocked to see my mother sitting on the couch with auntie Gina.

"Mom? what are you doing here? I thought you were back in Georgia still in rehab."

She scratched at her arms that were protected by her long sleeve shirt. My mother looked so fragile, like if you hugged her too tight she probably break. Her skin was pale cinnamon complexion was marked up from over twelve years of her drug habit and her thinning hair was pulled up revealing her balding spots. Her teeth were also disintegrated because of the drug.

"Hi, baby." She said trying to hide her smile. "How are you?"

"Mom." I said exhausted.

"Honey, let me talk to you for a minute " Auntie Gina asked me.

We stepped into the kitchen and my aunt looked at me with sorrowful eyes.

"Kario your mother is sick and she needs your help."

I sighed, "That's what the rehab program is for. I've done ALL I can do for her. I spent my childhood taking care of my drunken and high mother while trying to dodge child protective services so I wouldn't have to her leave her, auntie. I sold everything we had to pay rent but she took it to feed her drug habit, There's nothing more I can."

Auntie Gina sighed as she hugged me. It wasn't that I didn't love my mother because I've done shit for my mother that caused me to grow up faster then I was suppose to, so the love I have for my mother floated in the sky but I could no longer give her my life anymore.

"Just got talk to her, please?"

"I'm sorry Auntie but I can't."

I walked out of the kitchen, passing by the living room where my mother still sat on the couch but quickly rose to her feet only to be denied the hug she was waiting for. When I sat foot outside I began sprinting down the pathway as fast as my feet would allow.

After almost an hour of running I came to a small park where I rested my exhausted body on a bench. I pulled out my phone to see the picture of Ajalon and I the day of our first date and smiled. Without hesitation I scrolled through recent calls until her name popped up and I pressed call.

"Hello?" Her voice was the sweetest thing in my ear and that alone made my whole mood brighten. "Rio, I know it's you." She giggled.

"I just want to sit on the phone with you." I said after a minute of silence.

"Okay."

This wasn't our first time doing this so she didn't object. Sometimes I didn't feel like talking because just her breathing alone would satisfy me. We sat on the phone just listening to each other breath and her sing random songs here and there but we mostly stayed quiet.
