Beautiful Escape: Chapter Eleven

Ajalon.

MyRio: Aye knuckle head, whatcha do wit my shirt? (: -5:30pm

What shirt? -5:45pm

MyRio: The one you wore yesterday to work. -5:50pm

Ooooh lol I washed it when I was helping you do yo laundry, so check in the the dryer. -5:51pm

MyRio: Aight, I'll pick you up at 10 toots -5:54pm

I locked my phone then set it on the break room table. I've been at this job for almost two weeks and I love everything about it. My co-workers were pretty cool and were always helpful whenever I had questions.

After my last break the day seemed to go by pretty fast. Kassi and I counted the last money from the till then put everything in the safe and we were on our way out the back door.

"You like it so far?" Kassi asked as we stood outside in the dark.

I slipped on my cardigan and adjusted my satchel. "I love it, at first I was like I can't do this shit but I got the hang of everything so I'm loving it so far."

She nodded. "Yeah, you'll be a natural in no time."

I smiled.

Kario pulled up and got out the car then walked over to where Kassi and I stood. He smiled at Kassi.

"Rio, this is Kassi my closing manager, Kassi this is.."

"Her boyfriend, Kario. "

I looked up at Kario and he threw his arm around my shoulder and kissed my cheek.

"It's nice meeting you." Kassi eyed me, I guessed trying to tell me he was cute. "Well Aja I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yes, of course."

Kario and I watched Kassi safely get into her car then we walked hand in hand to his truck. He held the door open for me to get in then pulled himself into the drivers seat.

"How was work toots?" He asked after pulling out of the parking lot.

"I love it Rio, everybody there is really nice for the time being at least."

He laughed. "What'chu mean guh?"

"You know how females are, they'll like you one minute then turn around and talk about you to the next bitch. Plus I work with all females and one gay guy so I already know it's gonna be drama."

Kario shook his head. "Well just stay to yo' self and do yo' work."

I smiled.

Finally we pulled up to my dad's house. I still hadn't told Rio about the group home so when he picks me up I have him take me to my old house and tell him I have to go in through the back then take the bus back to the group home.

"I'll see you tomorrow at school?"

I nodded with a smile. "Bright and early."

"Goodnight." He leaned over and kissed my forehead.

"Night."

I slid out of his truck and waved at him from the curb. He waited til he saw me wave from the back gate before he took off. I exhaled before walking towards the bus stop down the street from where I use to live.

It took me almost two hours til I got back to the group home and by that time I was exhausted and I still had school in the morning. I dragged myself up to the door and walked inside to see Nikki sitting on the couch watching tv.

"Hey, Nikki." I said sitting next to her.

"Hey Aja, how was work?" She asked smiling.

I smiled. "It was coo."

Nikki had previously started to open up to me about her abusive past from her mother and the rape from her step father. My heart went out to her because I knew she felt lonely just as I had been. She's told me she gets bullied at school for the clothes that she wears and her how her curly hairs is never done so I gave her some of the designer clothes I couldn't fit anymore and some of my handbags. I've been saving up to buy a car but I always spared some money to buy her some shoes or take her to get her hair done, Nikki is like the younger sister I've always wanted.

"How'd school go?" I asked laying my head in her lap as she played with my hair.

"School was school." She chuckled. "I think I have a crush." She sheepishly cover her face as I shot up and smiled.

"Nuh huh, who?"

"This guy named Desmond, he punched this guy today who was talking about my big butt." She giggled.

"Well lemme be the first to tell you there is nothing wrong with being curvy, shoot I wish I had what you have but I'm just puffy."

"Puffy?" She giggled.

"Yes puffy honey, my little butt is like a bubble and my C cup boobs are the same."

We laughed together on the couch as I listened to her talk about Desmond and how much she liked him.

I love her bubbly personality and how even though she's been through so much, she finds the smallest reason to smile, I guess you could say I see a lot of myself in her and wanted nothing but the best for her.

"Alright kiddo, we should be going to sleep."

"I guess you're right." She playfully rolled her green eyes.

I hugged her goodnight then tucked her in, she's in the eighth grade but she says she's always wanted somebody to do it.

Before I went into my room I stopped by Ms. Debra's room but I heard her talking softly on the phone so I went to my room where Izzy laid across her bed snoring.

I smiled then went to shower before going into my bed and staring up at the ceiling. As thankful as I am to be here and not with my father, I can't help but constantly think about him and everything he put me through. If it's the last thing I ever do, I'm going to figure out why he hated me much but right now is too soon, but one day.

I pulled my comforter up to my neck and closed my eyes.

I keep breaking my promise to y'all but I'm absolutely in love with this story every time I reread it so just bear with me.

This part was kind of boring but I needed y'all to see her growth in the group home and the people there so just be patient.
