Beautiful Escape: Chapter Fourteen

Ajalon.

I was running late because my alarm didn't go off so when I looked at my phone at all the missed calls from Rio, I made up my mind that I'd see him at school.

Grabbing my house key and satchel from the kitchen table, I kissed mama Debra on the cheek as I flew out the door and to the bus stop.

Making my way through the front doors as the bell rang, I sat down in my Biology class and pulled out my phone and sent Rio a text.

Morning butthead, I was asleep when you text me. 7:36am.

As I waited for him to reply the substitute gave us a chapter out of the book to read and answer questions to.

MyRio: we need to talk, make sure you meet me at lunch. 7:45am

I stared at the text message wondering what he could've wanted to talk about. I hate statements like that because my mind runs a mile a minute thinking of any possibility. Without replying to Rio, I went to Jubilee's contact and and started typing.

jubilee! Kario said we need to talk! I'm scared. 7:49am.

JuJuB: fuck! I hate that bullshit. Well don't trip hun, things have been going good between y'all right? I ain't been gone that long it should be still good right?

I mean yeah, we were just chillin' at his house the other night then this morning he texts me 'we need to talk'. 7:53am.

JuJuB: it's prob. nothing don't trip lil mama. 7:55am.

I dunno Lele, I just have a feeling. 7:57am.

JuJuB: you're over thinking it just talk to him and text me what happens. Deal? 8:00am.

Okay. 8:01am.

I slid my phone in my satchel and tried to focus on my work but in the back of my mind, I couldn't help but wonder what Kario wanted to talk about.

By lunch, I was a nervous wreck. On my way to my locker I saw Blake and decided to walk with him.

"Wassup baby sis?" Blake asked throwing his arm over my shoulder and leaning on me.

I bit the inside of my cheek. "Have you seen Rio today?"

Blake smacked his lips making me laugh. "That's why you wanted to walk with me to talk about yo' side nigga?"

I couldn't control my giggles. "I'm not about to play with you today bruh."

He smiled. "I saw him earlier, he 'round here somewhere. Why? What'chu do?"

I playfully shoved him. "I haven't done anything."

"I haven't done anything." Blake mocked me, making mean mug him.

As we made our way towards the jam packed cafeteria, I caught sight of Kario talking to some of his friends. Blake hollered his name and he turned towards us. All of sudden I felt my heart drop in my stomach and it grew hotter than hell with each step he took.

Kario nodded towards Blake but kept his eyes on me. "Aye bruh, lemme talk to Ajalon real quick."

Blake looked at me with his fist covering his mouth. I couldn't hold Kario's gaze long so I played with the strap on my satchel, looking around the building. I was so nervous but I had no idea why.

"C'mere." Kario said taking my hand and leading me outside. "Have a seat."

"Kario what's going on?" I asked nervously.
