-Scarlett's POV-

There was a knock on my door that woke me up. "Good morning, hurry and get dressed. I need to register you in school." Kate said.
I groaned changed into the clothes I came in yesterday, or this morning. It seems like I've gotten no sleep at all. I lugged myself into the kitchen and sat down at the table. "Someone looks sleepy." Mason said.
I looked up at him and rolled my eyes. His hair was combed to the side and he was wearing a blue button up and a tie. His shirt had a star of David on the left side of if. "Uniforms?" I thought.
"Scarlett, would you like something to eat?" Joshua asked, he was spreading butter on a piece of toast.
I stood up and grabbed a bowl. I served myself some cereal. "Thanks." I said then sat down across Mason.
"Mason, you'll be showing Scarlett around school today. Make sure she gets to all of her classes." Kate explained as she walked in.
He nodded, "Sure, no problem. You'll like it at my school."
"I think I might have some trouble fitting in though." I explained.
"Don't worry about it."

"Okay Scarlett, you need to change into these clothes before you go to your next class. Oh, and here's your schedule." The woman at the front desk said. I walked into the bathroom of the school and changed. I looked down at my outfit. A plaid skirt, blue button up shirt like the one Mason has, and black socks that reach a little below my knees. This is worse than my juvie jumpsuit. After stuffing my clothes in my backpack I walked outside to search for my class.
The bell rang and soon the hallway was filled with students in matching uniforms.
I stepped out into the hall and shyly held on to my backpack. I didn't want to be noticed by anyone. I just wanted to find Mason. I scanned the crowd and didn't see him. I pulled out my schedule and looked for my class. Room A27 Science.
I stood against the lockers and looked around. A blonde girl was walking with her friends, "Excuse me." I said. She ignored me. I sighed and just kept walking down the hall, looking from side to side. There was no one around to help me.
I managed to find my classroom. I opened the door and walked over to the teacher. "May I help you?" She asked.
"Um. I'm a new student here my name is Ja-Scarlett Jacobs." I replied, I looked over the classroom and saw that people were giving me strange looks. Everyone was in pairs, so I had to sit with someone
"Ah, here you are Scarlett. You can take a seat right next to Brandon over there in the back. Brandon raise your hand." The boy raised his hand. He had on big glasses and his nose was stuck in a Bio book. I quickly walked over to him and sat down without saying a word or looking at anyone. I set my backpack on the table and rested my chin on my hand. Two girls in front of me turned around and giggled.
"I'm Brandon." Brandon said trying to get my attention.
I looked up at him, "Scarlett."
"Yesterday we dissected a frog. So today we're just writing our observations and things like that." He explained.
I nodded and pulled out a notebook Kate had given me. "Mr. Mellet. Late to class?" Mrs. Sterling announced.
I looked over at the door and saw that a boy had just walked in. He was tall and had dimples the size of craters when he smiled.
"Sorry Mrs. Sterling, I had to get notes from my French teacher." He said.
"Thats no excuse. Just take a seat and do your work." He walked over to the bench next to ours. He took out a pencil and a notepad, then spoke to his partner.
"What observations have you made?" Brandon asked.
"None so far." I replied. Brandon went back to taking his notes and I looked back at the boy. He was writing something down, he might have saw me from the corner of his eye because he looked up and faced me. Embarrassed I quickly turned around and wrote down what I thought the inside of a dead frog would look like.

After two more classes, it was time for lunch. Great something I'm familiar with, I stood in line holding a tray. The food here looked like it was freshly made and it smelled heavenly. I ended up choosing a chicken sandwich along with a cookie and water. After handing the lunch lady the money Kate had given me I walked out to the eating area. Everyone was in there cliques, while I had none.
There was a group of girls sitting at a nearby table. Once I got over to the them, they got up and left. Of course. I sighed and just sat at the table alone.
There was nothing much to do. After finishing my meal I pulled out a book I had brought with ms from juvie. It wasn't even mine, it was Christina's. Lord I missed her.

-Tydes POV-

I was glancing over at the new girl. I think I have her in two of my classes but I'm not sure. She was sitting alone reading a book. "Tyde, what are you doing this weekend?" My friend Luke asked.
"I'm not sure, why?" I said.
"Want to hang out?"
"Maybe, I'll ask." I looked back at the girl.  I got up from my seat and walked over to her. I sat across from her, and she only glanced from her book. I looked to see what she was reading. It was Harry Potter.
"Harry Potter, that's my favourite book series." I said, trying to make conversation. Still nothing. "It is so well written. I'm Tyde by the way."
"I'm Scarlett." She said.
"You new around here? I've seen you walking down the halls looking pretty lost."
She nodded, "It's my first day." Scarlett put the book down revealing her whole face. She had big brown eyes and long eyelashes. Her lips were big and full, and her hair was in waves. A bruise was just above her cheek and a cut was on her lip. I didn't pay attention to her marks though.
"How do you like it so far?"
"Its okay I guess. I've always been home schooled."
"Where are you from?"
"Uh, Albany."
"Albany? What are you doing in Perth?"
"I moved." She seemed uneasy about her answer.
The bell rang and she grabbed her things, as did I. "What's your next class?" I wondered.
"History, Mr. Adams."
"I have Adams too. Come on, I'll walk you."
She stepped into the classroom, everyone glared at her in awe. Scarlett walked over to Mr. Adams and he assigned her a seat.

-Scarlett's POV-

I sat in the back corner of the classroom. I didn't look for Tyde or look over at anyone, I just took out my notepad and a pencil. Mr. Adams was taking attendance.
"Okay class, listen up." The teacher announced. Everyone looked up at him, "As you know we just completed a chapter on Australian history. Instead of a test, you and a partner will be working on a project that summarizes what you have learned. The project will be due next week. Go and pick your partners."
I sat back in my chair. "Pairing up?" I thought, "Yup, that's great for the new kid who just broke out of juvie with scars on her face."
I stood up and looked around the room. A girl woth blonde hair was sitting by herself biting her nails. "Hey would you like to be..." I began to ask.
"Sorry, I already have a partner." She snapped. I nodded and walked over to a boy who was looking around.
"Do you have a..."
"James? You and me?" The boy shouted.
He pushed right past me, I was left alone in the middle of the classroom.
Everyone in the class seemed to have a partner already but me. I looked once more and saw someone walking over to her me. It was Tyde. "Hey, do you have a partner?" He questioned.
I shook my head, "No, afraid not. Everyone seems to be taken."
"Well, I'm not. Taken I mean."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "Really?"
He nodded, "Yeah, would you like to be my partner?"
I was tempted to say no, but since he's been so nice to me I nodded. "Sure."
"Great, how about we go over to my house after school to get started on it?"
"Uh, yeah sure. I just have to let my um, parents, know." I hesitated.
Tyde gave me a strange look at first then we sat down as he filled me in on the chapter they learned.

The final bell rang, I grabbed backpack and practically ran out of my Math class. Mason told me to find him in front of the school near a palm tree. Once I got outside I looked for him. He saw me and waved. I walked over to him, "How was it?" He asked.
I shrugged, "Better than expected." Mason was in grade twelve and I was in grade ten. He told me it would get easier once I get used to it.
"Oh can you let your mother know that I'm going over to someone's house today. We have to work on a project." I told him.
"Yeah, who's home?"
"Tyde...I forgot his last name."
"Oh Tyde Mellet. I know his sister. I'll let my mum know. I'll see you later." Mason said then left.
"There you are." There was a hand on my back. I turned around and Tyde stood there with a smile on his face.
"Here I am. And my parents said it was fine."
"Great, let's go. My house is just down the street."
