Chapter 44

He stared at me as if there was a picture painted on my face. However, I kept my eyes stern, making sure I didn't let him have any affect on me.

Finally, his lips started to move, "Why do you say that?"

"I-I-I was talking to Luke and he-he-uhmm brought it up," I nervously let the words fall.

I was scared. 

He blinked and stepped towards me again, "I would never use you. In any way."

And yet for some reason, his words didn't sound too convincing. 

I held his gaze and he looked away after a few seconds.

"Promise?" I asked. 

Silence.

I waited a little longer until he spoke again, "Yes, I promise."

He still didn't sound so sure.

"Justin, if there was something going on, you'd tell me right?" I asked.

He nodded, "Of course."

I let out a tired sigh as he pulled me into a hug.

"Never let Luke get to your head. Half of the time, he's high on some next shit," he chuckled.

I slightly nodded my head, even though Justin couldn't see my face.

He planted a kiss on the top my head and played with the ends of my shirt.

"I love you," he spoke in a quiet tone. I barely heard him but it was enough for me to forget all about Luke's fake assumptions.

"I love you too," I smiled, making sure to look at him as I said it.

Justin offered to drive me back to campus and told me I couldn't reject his kind offer. 

As he drove, he turned on the radio and a song I didn't know the lyrics to was playing.

But, Justin seemed to know the song well, since he sang to it.

I tensed as I saw his phone light up and reveal a message from Luke. Justin hadn't noticed it, considering his eyes were on the road and his ears were into the music.

However, I did.

The message read, *Yeah, I talked to her. You better just tell her now."

What was he talking about?

Curiosity built up inside me and I couldn't help but think the text message had something to do with what he had told me earlier. I was almost certain that Justin was angry at Luke for saying such things to me about him. It was obvious that Justin was going to yell at Luke.

Justin noticed my hard gaze on his phone and he picked it up and pretended to check the time, "Are you okay?" He then asked.

I nodded, but honestly, I wasn't so sure.

"Yeah, uhmm I just remembered I have work. Can you drop me off?"

He agreed and turned the car.

I arrived at work earlier than usual and I was happy to know I had time to grab something to drink before starting my shift.

Then, I worked and dealt with the customers. It was all kind of a blur but I do remember a lady getting really mad at me for not giving the exact amount of her change back.

When I got back to my room, I was disappointed to see Luke occupied on Katie's bed. I was even more disappointed when I realized Katie was no where to be seen.
