Chapter 16

Chase was working on all the electronics, trying to get them to work. Somehow, he managed to convince Emmett to help him. I walked over to them and watched them work for a minute.

"Hey, are you guys getting any closer to figuring this out?" I asked.

"Not really." Chase stated.

"Oh."

"Why do you care? I thought you wanted to stay here."

"I do, but I don't think I want my family to think I'm dead. Plus we would still stay here, just everyone else would come here too."

"Why did you change your mind?"

"Well I just thought about it, plus it would be nice to see my siblings again."

"Ok."

"So nothing with the machines?"

"No, I don't think-"

He was cut off by a loud noise. Soon the noise stopped.

"Like I was saying, I don't think we are going to be able to get this working. At least not today."

"Oh, well we can keep trying."

"Yeah we will but most of these wires are fried."

"Oh."

"There's just not a lot to work with here. Most of this stuff stopped working when we entered Earths atmosphere."

"Like the earpieces."

"Yeah, and the stuff that is working is pretty useless."

"Ok, well why don't you guys just take a break and we can eat some lunch."

"Ok, what do you want to have?"

"We could have salads, if you want."

"That sounds good." They both agreed.

"Ok, well let's walk back to my house and we can make some salads."

We got back to the house and started making the salads. I cut up vegetables and then Emmett took them and washed them. When we were almost done cutting up the vegetables, I noticed we didn't have any tomatoes or green peppers so I sent Chase out to the garden to pick some for us. I put the salads together in bowls and then we sat down to eat them.

After we ate, I collected the dishes and put them in the sink. After I was done collecting the dishes, Chase washed them.

When everything was cleaned up, we walked back by the rockets. I sat down and watched while they started getting to work on the electronics. They were putting wires together and working on all kinds of things that I didn't completely understand.

"Hey Emmett, I don't think this is going to work."

"Well we could at least try a little longer."

"Ok I guess we could try something else."

"Ok, what if we try sparking electricity with these two wires so we can charge this." Emmett suggested as he held up the wires and a box.

All of a sudden there was a big explosion after they connected the two wires. I was thrown by the explosion out of the rocket and onto the ground outside. I looked up to see if I could find Chase or Emmett, but there was dust flying around and I was kind of dizzy. I struggled, but I managed to stand up and see Chase and Emmett walking towards me. Just then, before we could even focus on what had just happened, we were thrown to the ground again by something that felt like an Earthquake. Some time must have past, because I woke up laying on the ground and my ears were ringing. I stood up and looked behind me where he site of the blast was. I saw a new rocket on the ground. I looked back to Chase and Emmett and saw them walking towards me.

"Are you going to look inside?"

"Yeah, I think so."

I started walking towards the rocket and opened the door. I took a deep breath and then walked inside. I looked around as I walked through the rocket. Eventually I walked up to a chair on the ground. I knelt down to get a better look, and I saw May laying in the chair.
