-KJ's POV-
I grabbed my keys and purse as I walked to the front door of my house. I quickly looked in the mirror beside the door and smiled.
I was wearing my customized Lakers jersey that my best friend, Kobe Bryant, had gotten me for my birthday. It looked very much like his jersey and it was super cute.
Today's Kobe's retirement day, and as his best friend, of course I'm going to be there to support him. He doesn't know I'm coming though. It'll be a nice little surprise.
I drove over to the arena and parked before heading inside. I had gotten front row tickets, hoping to immediately get Kobe's attention when the Lakers came out.
They were playing against the Utah Jazz, and I was very confident that the Lakers would win.
Soon, the players all came out, Kobe stepping onto the court last. Everyone got on their feet respectfully, clapping for one of the greatest basketball players of all time. I teared up, clapping.
Kobe saw me and his eyes lit up. He jogged over to me. "KJ! You're here!"he exclaimed, pulling me into a hug. I replied,"Well duh, I'm not going to miss my best friend's last game." Kobe chuckled and pulled away from the hug. "I'm really glad you're here, KJ."
"Hey, the people over there are calling you. Go to them. Good luck though, boo,"I said. Kobe smiled as I kissed his cheek.
"Now, for the last time ever... Go out there and kick some butt for me,"I said one last time. I always said that to him before every game I was at. Kobe smiled and hugged me. "You know I will,"he responded before jogging away.
I couldn't stop smiling. I'm so proud of this man.
Every person in the arena was chanting Kobe's name, making me very emotional. This is my best friend that I'm talking about. How could I not be proud of him?
A video started playing of Kobe's career, with highlights and messages from great players. After it was done, Kobe gave a thank you speech.
Right after that, he jogged over to me and kissed my forehead. "One last win,"he whispered before running to the bench. I smiled admiringly at him, watching him listen to the coach.
Okay, I kind of have a little crush on Kobe... Fine, a really big one. Can you blame me? He's a great guy. It sucks that he doesn't like me back though.
The game started, and boy was it emotional. Kobe was killing it, playing his heart out.
At halftime, Kobe ran over to me. "I won't hug you because I'm sweaty, but I'm so glad you're here tonight KJ. I'm doing this for you,"he said, making me blush. "Come on Kobe. Don't make me feel too special now,"I teased, making him grin. "I gotta go to the back now, but I'll catch you after the game,"he informed. I nodded. "Good luck in the second half,"I mumbled as he walked away.
It didn't really hit me that that was the last time I would ever say that to Kobe, but I soon realized that. It made me so sad. I started tearing up.
When the teams came back out after halftime, I looked around for Kobe. He gave me a big grin and I blew him a kiss.
The second half was magical. Kobe was getting so many points, and everyone was cheering him on.
As the final seconds counted down, I took a deep breath. The horn went off and everyone was on their feet for Kobe Bryant, the greatest of all time. I screamed and cheered for Kobe.
Kobe quickly ran over and embraced me in a hug. He placed a kiss on my cheek and then pulled away from the hug. "This is so emotional man,"he mumbled, rubbing his face. I nodded, rubbing his back. "I'll see you by the locker rooms, KJ. Let me give my goodbye speech and talk to some people,"Kobe said before walking away.
I slowly made my way to the back. Security let me through since I had a little authorized badge with me.
I waited by the locker rooms, just thinking about how proud I was of Kobe. He did all this for so many years. Never did he disappoint me.
Players started making their way by me. A few stopped to talk to me. I was talking to D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson when I saw Kobe walking towards me. "Excuse me,"I quickly said before running to Kobe.
I wrapped my arms around him before looking into his eyes. His eyes were filled with emotion. "I'm so proud of you baby,"I whispered, putting my hands on his face.
Before I realized it, Kobe and I were kissing. After hearing some howls, we pulled away. A bunch of people were watching us. I blushed, really embarrassed. But that kiss was absolutely magical.
Kobe confessed,"KJ, I really have to admit this now. I'm in love with you. I have been for the longest time. I just got all this courage now, after all that's happened tonight. I've realized nothing lasts forever. But right now, I know one thing does last forever. And that's love. I love you KJ, and I want you to be mine."
I was so surprised. I just stared at him. But then I choked out,"I-I love you t-too." I smashed my lips onto his.
Kobe pulled away and asked,"KJ, will you be my girlfriend?" I smiled. "I'd love to."
