My Comforter (Derrick Rose) -Dani-

-Dani's POV-

"Babe, there's like no food,"I complained to my boyfriend, Kevin. He chuckled and said,"Go get groceries then."

"Will you come with me?"I pouted. He sighed and groaned,"Do I have to?" "Only if you love me,"I cheesed. Kevin stood up. "Okay then. Let's go,"he said, taking my hand into his.

We went to the grocery store and started filling a shopping cart with as much junk food as I could.

I was grabbing some cookies and when I walked back into the other aisle, I saw Kevin talking to a tall blonde woman. I couldn't help but eavesdrop.

"Last night was so fun,"the girl purred, putting her hand on his chest. I bit my lip.

"Not right now, Valerie. I don't want Dani to see us together. Just go,"Kevin said. Valerie sighed,"Fine. But you better make it up to me in bed." "You know I will,"Kevin smirked.

My heart dropped and shattered. "Wow,"I mumbled.

Kevin looked over at me, his eyes widening. He started defending,"It's not what it looks like!"

My eyesight blurred over with tears. I started running away. I heard Valerie say,"Let her go. She's ugly anyways."

In the parking lot, I didn't know what to do. I didn't have the keys to Kevin's car.

This really really sucks. My whole life sucks. I can't believe this happened.

I went down the street and got in a taxi to go to my house.

When I was home, I just laid on the couch. I had no motivation to even sit up. I wanted to just die right there. The one man I loved cheated on me.

I had to call my best friend. I slowly dialled Derrick Rose.

He picked up after a few rings. "Hey Dani. What's up?"he greeted.

I just broke out in tears. "He-he cheated o-on m-m-me,"I choked out. "Kevin fucking cheated on you?"he cussed in anger.

I asked,"Could you please just come over?" "Of course. I'm already on my way,"Derrick said before hanging up. I just started crying again.

I thought Kevin loved me. I really did. Derrick warned me about Kevin, but I didn't listen to him. Why didn't I just listen to Derrick? He always knows what's right for me. But I always insist on knowing more.

The doorbell rang and I slowly walked over to it. I opened the door and saw Derrick. He walked in, closing the door behind him. I tried to hold in my tears but I couldn't. They just poured out.

"Oh Dani,"he sighed, pulling me into a hug. "I-I c-can't b-b-believe h-he did that,"I stuttered, crying into his chest.

"Baby, let it all out,"he soothed, rubbing my back. After a few minutes of just me crying, Derrick led me to the couch. He sat down beside me and wrapped his arms around me.

I looked up at Derrick with tears in my eyes and whispered,"You and I have been friends for so long now. You know everything about me. What is my imperfection that made Kevin want to cheat on me?"

Derrick said,"There is nothing about you that is less than perfect. Let me just tell you that." "Well Kevin obviously didn't like something about me,"I mumbled, looking down.

He assured,"Dani, you are perfect just the way you are." "But-" He interrupted,"No buts. Shut your mouth now and hug me." I couldn't help but smile as I wrapped my arms around him. Derrick kissed my forehead.

"Don't worry Dani. Everything's going to be fine. You're the most beautiful, special woman I know,"he complimented. "Shut up,"I smiled, hitting his chest. He exclaimed,"Hey, it's true." I looked up at him and smiled.

"I'm so glad to have you as a friend,"I sighed before kissing his cheek. "Aye, you too. Kevin doesn't know what he just let go of,"Derrick said.

"I love you Derrick,"I said, smiling a little. "And I love you Dani,"he replied.

Derrick stared right into my eyes. For a little too long I think. But then I just got lost in his eyes. I never noticed all the emotion that you could see in his eyes. And what a nice brown colour they were.

Before I realized what was going on, Derrick's lips touched mine.

I pulled away out of initial shock. "Uh, oh shit. Sorry Dani. That was stupid,"Derrick apologized, shaking his head.

I touched my bottom lip. It felt all tingly. Woah. That felt good.

"No, no. It's fine,"I assured as I touched his shoulder.

Derrick nervously asked,"Did you- Uh... Did you, um, like it?" I bit my lip, slowly nodding.

Derrick admitted,"I have something I've been hiding from you for many years." "What is it?"I asked, sitting up straighter. I looked at him carefully. He took a deep breath and then said it.

"Dani, I'm in love with you."

Butterflies erupted in my stomach as the words escaped his mouth.

"Are you serious?"I questioned. He nodded and answered,"Dead serious." "I never really thought about it too much to be honest. I mean, I used to really like you, but then you got all popular and stuff. It didn't seem right to have a crush on you. I don't know,"I shrugged.

Derrick asked,"Wait, you liked me back?" I nodded. "Man, I should have asked you out,"he realized. I wondered,"Why didn't you then?" "I was all insecure and then you started dating Kevin and stuff." I bit my lip. "Oh."

"Dani, since you know how deeply in love with you I am now, will you please be my girlfriend?"Derrick asked.

I answered,"No." Derrick's face completely dropped.

I added wittily with a grin,"You don't expect me to agree to be your girlfriend before we even go on a date, do you?" Derrick shook his head, chuckling. "Damn, you had me scared for real Dani,"he said.

I laughed and shushed,"Sh, you love me." "I do love you,"he replied with a grin.
