CHAPTER 7- AND IT'S DRAINING ALL OF ME
I waited by my car. Thinking to myself why am I even here. Just as I thought that I should call it a night and go home Jarviss walked out the doors. I looked and saw me standing next to my car, he didn't even acknowledge me he just kept walking. He walked right to the bus stop in front of the jail house. I was kinda hurt by that. I hopped in my car and pulled in front of the bus stop in the middle of the road I didn't care. I needed to see him. I rolled down the passenger window and yelled
"You need a ride?"
He looked at me like was crazy and said
"Nah I'm good"
"Well I don't know how far you gonna go I saw the bus ride by with the last ride sign on it." I was lying right through my teeth.
"I'll walk then" he shot back
"Come on, you were gonna take the express bus I said looking at the sign. The closest stop on that bus is almost 10 miles from here please just let me give you a ride. Please." I said.
Reluctantly he climbed in. "You gotta turn around." He demanded.
I made a quick U turn and it was quiet for a while. I decided to speak.
"I'm sorry that all this happened to you"
"It's alright. It was my fault I shouldn't have gotten carried away"
"No I should've just stayed home or just did what Sam"
"What? Do what he wanted you to do. Like always right?. Stop blaming yourself for everything. You wanted to have fun, you went out. The only mistake I see that you made was getting with that bitch ass niggah." He said frustrated.
"Well thank you, for being there for helping me"
"No problem it's what my mother would've wanted me to do."
"Why did you do it, I mean besides it being what your mother wanted you to do."
"Honestly, I got heated when I saw him putting his hands on you. I tried to keep my distance but I saw things getting out of hand really quick. I just couldn't take an individual as beautiful as yourself being treated like someone's personal doormat."
Now that hit me and hit me hard.
"I'm sorry maybe I should've said that in a better way" he said sincerely.
"No it's fine It's true." I said in a very monotone.
"But hey you stood up for yourself as best as you could. I didn't think you had that in you." He said trying to lighten the mood.
"Neither did I"
It was silent for a while so decided to turn up the radio. After hearing "Forever My Lady" on the radio I quickly turned it but he looked at me like I was crazy.
"Please don't tell me you don't listen you old jams."
"Nah! It's not that. I just um I didn't think it was appropriate you know? It's a love song"
"Ain't nothing wrong with a love song when there's love in the air."
"Excuse me"
"Tell me something. Do you hate me?"
"Considering the fact that you saved my life tonight. No I don't hate you."
"Well if you don't hate me. There's some love in there for me right?"
"I guess so" I said kinda confused.
"Alright then." He said turning up the radio "then there's love in the air"
He proceeded to singing the song and let's just say he is not the best singer. When the song was over I let out a sigh and said "Thank god"
"Girl, quit hating you know you was digging my singing"
"I don't see much to hate on" I laughed.
"Mhm. By the way we passed my street like 6 times."
"Oh uh uh gas is to high for that."
He laughed "it's a right up here"
I turned and realized we were on the really nice side of Georgia. We pulled up to a very fancy house. I don't live in the hood, but my neighborhood is no where near as fancy as this. Then I thought how could someone on probation live in a house as nice as this.
"So um the officer said you violated your probation. What are you on probation for?" I asked straight up.
"Well that my my friend is another story for another time." He said smiling.
"Another time?"
"Considering that I saved your life the least you can do is put 7 digits in this here cell phone" he said all serious like
I grabbed the phone and put my number in.
"Don't go ghost on me when I text you better reply."
"I won't"
"Promise"
I laughed "I promise"
I looked into those green eyes that get me every single time. I felt as if a gravitational pull was pulling me towards him. Just then the front door to his house swung open.
"I'll see you tomorrow" he said getting out the car.
When he reached the front door he called back "thanks again for the ride"
I waved to him as I drove off.
"The pleasure was all mine" I mumbled.
