- Napoleon Hill
"Ha...tsi, tsi, tsi!" (In case you are wondering: that's the sound I make when sneezing) I unintentionally announced my presence to my little sister before even entering her room.
Not good!
It had been my plan to take her by surprise, in order not to give her enough time to prepare for my attack.
Hesitantly stepping through the door, I spotted my eleven year old sibling sitting at the desk facing the double window, her back to me.
"Tina, would you do me a favor, please?" I addressed her cautiously, as soon as I had recovered enough from my sneezing spell to be able to speak.
"It depends. What do you want?" Tina sighed, before turning around in her seat to look at me questioningly.
Uh-oh. Judging by her tone of voice and the scowl on her face, I doubted that she was in the mood to grant me my slightly unusual request.
Well... any request, really.
Which was unfortunate, as I did not know whom else to ask.
"It's nothing much. I just need a few minutes of your time." I assured her, nervously playing with the book that I clutched in my hands.
"Can't you see I am busy doing my homework?" She demanded to know, her green eyes, so unlike my own blue ones, boring into mine.
I sighed. This would be so much easier if my sibling was just a bit more like me. But... no.
We two were opposites in every way: whereas I was short and dark haired, she was tall and blond. Whereas I loved reading (well... that was actually an understatement. I guess "was addicted to" would be a more appropriate term...) and relaxing on my bed, she enjoyed being outside playing with her group of friends. She loved company, while I preferred being by myself. Whereas I excelled in maths, German and English, she preferred art, which was easily my worst subject...
Well, I guess you get the picture.
Maybe I should ask my parents one day whether they had adopted one of us...
Oh, and while I enjoyed exploring the mysteries of life and thinking outside of the box, she felt more comfortable with sticking to society's rules and everything that was common knowledge.
Which brought me back to the task at hand.
"You know, I have been reading this book on hypnosis..." I started to explain, trying to sound sure and convincing, while I felt anything but.
"Hypnosis... what is this?" Tina asked me suspiciously.
There you go.
I fiddled with the book in question." Well... you try to get somebody in a hypnotic state, so they will do whatever you want." As soon as the words had escaped my mouth, I wanted to mentally slap myself. That definitely came out wrong!
