Unexpected Visit | Adrienette
It was already midnight when Adrien reluctantly slid off his covers as he quietly put on his bedtime slippers, trying not to wake his sleeping kwami. He rose from his bed and went towards the door, taking a deep breath before twisting the knob open. Tranquilly, Adrien walked down the staircase while holding to its banister just for assurance.
His father's secretary, Nathalie, called him on the phone a few minutes ago and told him to get up for his father wants to talk to him in his office. At first, Adrien was dumbfounded because his father actually wanted to talk to his son, and that they would finally have an actual conversation.
At the same time, he was also hesitant to talk to him because he thinks that he will just do his usual doing: to lecture him for not being a perfect son to him. Nevertheless, he still followed his father's order. He does not have a choice, anyway.
Maybe things will be different now.
Or that is what he thought.
When Adrien finally reached the end of the stairs, he pursed his lips and went his way to Gabriel Agreste's office which is located at the back part of the mansion, supposedly a mini office of his father for his main office is upstairs.
His slippers lightly squeaked against the cold marble floor as he walked to the long hallway heading to Gabriel's office. The silent atmosphere did not seem to disturb him at all since he was already used to it ever since his mother disappeared.
He stopped from walking when his father's office came into view. Adrien sighed deeply before knocking on his father's office door. When he heard a faint voice, saying, "Come in." that gave him permission to go inside.
Gabriel Agreste was seated on a large swivel chair—his hands clasped together as he plopped his chin on top of it with a serious expression on his face. It was one of his usual expressions already after his wife vanished. He gazed at his son, who is awkwardly standing by the bookshelf with his lips pursed.
Gabriel ushered him to one of the black swivel chairs and with a cold tone he said, "Take a seat, Adrien."
Adrien gave him a polite nod, before taking a seat with his arms crossed to his chest. A few seconds have passed, he decided to start their first actual conversation. "S-So, f-father! W-Why do y-you want to t-talk me?" he queried with a stutter.
He was not really used to talking to his father, and so was Gabriel Agreste to his son.
His father abruptly replied, "You are dropping out school."
Adrien widened his eyes in disbelief, instantly glaring at his father before standing up to demur. "What? Sorry, but I am not letting you do that, father. You know how much I yearn to study in an actual school that I even begged a thousand times just for you to allow me! You cannot just simply drop me out!"
"And you also know how much I despise rebels," his father ignored his protest and just looked at him with a stern face. Gabriel glared at him, eyeing his son carefully. "I know you are sneaking out your room every night, Adrien. Last month, I ordered Nathalie to always visit your room after your curfew to check if you are already sleeping. Seems like your pillows were the ones always sleeping soundly in your bed, son."
Adrien tried to make up an excuse, but his father stopped him in an instant.
"Do not even try to reason out, Adrien. I already let this issue slide for one whole month. Now, I have had enough."
He gritted his teeth in anger, trying to stop himself to curse his own father. Adrien was really infuriated. His body was fuming with hatred, for his father that is. He stepped back, harshly pushing the swivel chair against the glass table—making a loud thud but Gabriel did not show any emotion.
