This chapter is based on Laura's first paranormal job. It's quite big (so I've divided it in 2 parts - chapter 8 and 9) but do read . The vision mentioned here in has a great role in second book. And the pearl plays an important part in the later phase of this book itself.

John Campbell frantically pulled out drawers and the cupboards. He seemed disappointed . He sat on the bed, thinking, holding his head in his hands. Where could it be? Where could it be? He asked himself . Then he suddenly rose, went over to the dressing table and pushed it aside. There was a key attached to the back of the mirror. He sighed with relief. He mopped the sweat off his forehead and hurried to the cupboard. He then took out a golf stick and slammed it hard against the wooden wall. One hit after other. Finally, the wood broke and exposed a safe. He inserted the key and opened the safe. That's when the weird things started. He felt a strange presence in the room. Lights started flickering on and off and the temperature dropped a few degrees. No, it's too soon. He hurried with the safe and took out a small metal box from the safe. He hurried across the room, towards the door, goosebumps rising up his spine. But as soon as he reached the door, it slammed shut and the TV suddenly burst to life.
The TV played a video from his childhood which was never made. John and his childhood friend were at a lake having fun, swimming and throwing water at each other. Then the video fast forwarded and John saw sitting in a meeting discussing business deals with the mystery person . Then the video again fast forwarded and showed a big black shiny pearl. It was worth millions and suddenly, the TV got switched off and in it he saw a reflection- a slim figure wearing a black suit but blood all over the chest.
As soon as he saw the figure, he couldn't move nor speak. "I'm sorry. I...I didn't want to kill .... Look, here's what you wanted." He offered the ghost the metal box. "Please take it and ..." he couldn't complete his sentence as the figure zapped infront of him, its hand now grabbing his heart.
John screamed as loud as he could and begged his friend's spirit through his eyes. But it wouldn't stop and soon John could feel his blood all over his chest and he gave the last of his breaths.

"Here's your newspaper and pie." I handed them over to Sebastian after slamming the door.
"What now?" I asked curiously.
"We go back to the motel, you will research and I'll sleep."
"Hey, that's not fair. Why do you get to sleep while I work?" I complained.
"Because I was driving all night." He replied.
I agreed not because of his reply but because I wanted to do research. I've always been the freak lover, well until the freak chased me. I had a habit to believe pretty much anything I was told; and now that I had a different approach to these things, I wanted to know more about them.
Then we got to our room. He slept and I switched on his laptop.
On the way back to motel I'd asked him what exactly did he mean by research.
"Well, read the newspaper and the local urban legends. Find if there's any connection. Usually the violent murders articulated in the urban legends are not just rumours but the real deal. Once we know how he was killed, we can understand the ghost's motives and perhaps save the next person on his list." He'd said. Well, it's kind of a tough but interesting job.
I googled "Denver, haunted murders" and a number of search results appeared but none was specific. I'd alreay read the newspaper article.
