"What is that supposed to mean?" I shouted.
"Well, it means the humans have figured you out, they know what you are."
"Then why would they kill the things that would try to kill us?"
"Because they weren't made to kill you, the one at Wren's tried to kill you and Lily because it was sent there to protect Wren. Beasts aren't very bright; they can't tell the difference between friend and foe."
"Oh. So they killed the things at our houses trying to get in to kill us? Why didn't they get the one at Wren's?"
"Yes! You're catching on. And, I don't know. But now you can go take care of your things and get to training immediately. If the humans know what you are, you need it more than ever."

We walked down the hall with all the doors. The plaques overhead had all different species on them, showing us which one to go in for our specific species. Hybrids do multiple training classes, for each species they're a mix of. My first one was for my shapeshifting. Earlier, the three of us had managed to find the hallway on our own. We were really getting used to this place. Lily found her door first.
"Well here I go."
"Good luck!" I said.
I found mine next, leaving Wren to wander the hall alone. I walked through the door to find a large room with a glass wall halfway through it, dividing it into two halves. There was a door on the end of it with a sign on it that said Beginners. I went through that door and found myself alone with an instructor. It was Ms. Callaghan.
"Hi!" I smiled and waved.
She was about to say something when the door opened again. I turned to see who it was, and spotted Katie walking in.
"Ok you two," my attention turned back to Ms. Callaghan,"Are you ready to train?"
"Definitely," I said enthusiastically.
Katie nodded her head.
"Good. So beginners is for anybody that hasn't been here for a year. Katie, I know we've gone over shifting already, but since Cameron is here now, we'll have to start over."
"That's fine. I could use a refresher. I haven't been to training in a while..."
Ms. Callaghan nodded in understanding.
"Let's begin. To shift, think of which animal you want to become. Every shifter has a "spirit animal" type, which is the animal you're closest to. Mine is a Golden Retriever."
"How do we know what ours is?" I asked.
"Close your eyes and think of animals, not any in specific, just animals in general. It will be the first one to pop into your head. Go ahead and try it."
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath in. I let it out and thought about animals. I love animals. After a few seconds, a red fox popped into my head. My eyes snapped open.
"You got one?" Katie and Ms. Callaghan asked in unison.
"A red fox. What's yours Katie?"
"A raccoon," She chuckled.
"Well, to shift, envision that animal, think only of that animal and shifting into it. Try."
I closed my eyes, listening to my own breathing, concentrating on red foxes. I guess it was a lot easier than she made it sound because I opened my eyes to find I was much lower to the ground. I looked down and saw black paws leading up to red legs. I turned and saw a red, furry back and a bushy tail the same color, the tip of it black. I was a fox.
