Aria's POV

I squeezed my eyes closed as Derek's screams pulsed through the air, making me cringe. "What is that? Is that gonna kill him?" Allison asked quickly.

"Oh come on kiddo, don't go all soft on me now." Kate smirked.

"Let him go! Please!" I pleaded, not daring to look to my side where Derek was still in pain.

"What is he?" Allison asked.

"Shapeshifter, lycan, werewolf." Kate laughed as she exaggerated the last word of her sentence. "To me he's just another dumb animal."

"And her?" Allison questioned.

"Fun." Kate smiled. Allison looked at her aunt in complete shock.

The electricity feeding into my brother was finally turned off. He was in his wolf form and very limp. His body couldn't take much more.

"Come here." Kate ordered Allison. "You see these." She made Derek's fangs visible. "These are called canines, also known as fangs. They're for the tearing and rending of flesh. Not something you find on those cute little herbivores is it?"

Allison shook her head, her mouth open slightly in shock still. "This is a joke to you?" Allison asked in disbelief.

"Sweetheart, there's werewolves running around in this world. Everything's a joke to me. He else do you think I stay sane?" Kate replied, an evil glint appearing in her eyes.

"You aren't." I spat. Earning a smirk of amusement from Kate.

"So... It was him at the high school and all the other animal attacks?" Allison questioned.

Kate switched off the light before continuing her conversation with her niece. "There's actually three of them. We have another one like him, called a beta, and then there's the Alpha. He's the pack leader. Bigger, stronger, nastier. Those are the real ugly ones." Kate finished, humour still evident in her voice. The door slid shut and I was thankful they'd finally left Derek in peace.

"Derek?" I barely whispered. Looking to my side I could make out his figure. He didn't look too good, but I knew he was healing. All I could hear was the steady sound of Derek's breathing as the electricity wore off. It filled a void I had inside me. The sound of Derek breathing was enough to assure me he was alive, and that he was going to be okay.

I was exhausted. If I felt this tired, God only knows how Derek felt. Being here with him but not being able to help made me feel so weak. Granted I was locked up but I still felt so helpless, I couldn't even defend myself.

My eyelids began to feel heavy and I let them close. It only felt like a few minutes when I jolted awake again. But light was feeding through some gaps in the room we were in. Chains rattled as I looked to the side of me and Derek, he looked like he was asleep but a more stern expression rested on his face.

As I was watching him his eyes shot open as he looked around as if to see if it was reality.

"You're okay." I soothed.

"She's coming back." Derek sighed. As did I.

She asked Derek about the Alpha but he said nothing. Kate began to fumble around with some tools and things when she spoke up again. "Come on Derek, he killed your sister." Anger rose inside me.

"Now, either you're not telling me because you want to kill him yourself, or for some reason, you're protecting him." Kate stated. Looking at Derek he was standing still, his eyes closed, ignoring her.

Kate pulled something out of Derek's wallet then laughed as she walked over to him. "Look at that sour face." She laughed holding up his driving license next to his face. She then looked at me as if to expect the same kind of amusement. She walked over, smiling.
