"You two into the kitchen!" Mum said as we entered our house. We went into the kitchen silently. Mum only sounded like that whenever we got into some serious trouble. We sat around the kitchen table and waited for mum to come and sit down.
"Are you gonna tell me about the ring?" I asked as she was sitting down. I was very eager to find out what Mr. Alfred had been taking about. I hated being on the outside I liked knowing what was going on and what was going to happen.
"Yes.." She said shakily, "I have been neglecting,ever since father went away, to talk to both of you about some things,"
Eric and I both glanced at each other. We thought she was going to give us The Talk.
We continued listing to her though.
"The ring you have one is extremely important.. And I haven't seen one of those in a long time. And I have no idea where he got it unless he is One," she said. Whenever she "is One" my heart beat quickened.
"Is One what??" I asked with my heart in my throat.
"An Element Lord," she said. I stared at her in unbelief. My heart skipped a beat.
"A what?" I asked.
"An Element Lord," she repeated, "and by the looks of your ring he is a Lord of water," she said. So many questions came flowing into my head.
"How many elements are there??" I asked excitedly.
"Five. Earth,wind,water,ice,and fire," she said, "I have wind," she said sounding rather proud.
"What do I have??" I asked her
"I am not sure yet..." She said sadly.
She gave both of us the back story on all of the elements and the great war which divided the people of earth and the Element Lords and Queens.
"Whoa!" I said, "but where do the rings come in?" I asked
"Ahh. Thank you for reminding me. The rings boost your Element power," she said.
"So it's like a power-up?" Eric asked
"Yeah. Like a power-up... But it is very unusual that he would just hand it out to you.. Unless he thought you were just absolutely out standing in something.. Did you make any water or something come out of you in anyway today??" She asked me.
"Not counting going to the bathroom?" I asked while smiling, "no, all I did was recite the periodic table and this is what he rewarded me with," I said as I gestured to the ring on my finger.
"Interesting..... " she said while in deep thought...
"Wait," Eric said, "are you saying that Dominic is an Element person?" He asked. He looked terrified and worried.
"Since I didn't get a ring does that mean I don't have the power of Elements??" Eric asked sadly.
"There is a possibility that you do not have powers but I am not completely sure.. I was trying to keep both of you as normal for as long as possible.. The only reason you probably didn't get a ring is because your powers don't shine as bright as others like Dominic's and Rachael's... Is there anything that Dominic can do that is special?? Like weird special??" She asked him
"He can...." Eric was trying to think
"What did he do to get the ring??" Mum asked trying to make things easier for him.
"Oh!! He made the fastest fire in geography class. And he didn't even have any flint and steel. He just used wood against wood!!" He said marveling at it, "it was a project to show who could actually survive a week in the wild. I didn't really understand what that had to do with geography class but he did it anyway!"
"Weird," I said
"Yeah.. He is definitely an Element Lad.." Mum said
"Wait... Hang on," I said "we're Lads and Ladies?" I asked scoffing.
"Yes," she said, " you only become Lords and Queens whenever you have mastered your Element,"
"Are you a Queen?" Eric and I both asked at the same time
"Yes.. But I doubt I am able to do what I used to do," she said.. Eric and I were still amazed.
"Where's your ring?? Do you have to earn them?" I asked
"Yes, you do. I lost mine a long time ago," she said sadly, "do not tell anyone what I have told you in the past hour!"
She said in a motherly tone, "try not to do anything crazy, Eric, to prove you have powers too. And try to keep your emotions under control.. Sometimes things can happen if you get to scared or mad," she said warningly.
"So we just try to control ourselves as much as possible?" I asked
"Yes. Just try to avoid people who make you mad or anything like that," she said, "it's pretty simple.. Also keep your hands to yourself that is extremely important.. When I found out that I had
Element powers a kid made me mad and pushed me. Well, I decided to push him back. But instead of pushing him,he got blown across the play ground because I touched him and my powers were unstable and out of control," she said.
"Oh ok.." I said, "no biggie then. I thought something bad would would happen," I said this with a large amount of sarcasm. She laughed a little bit.
"Just try and act normal. Or as close to normal as you can get..." She said with a smile.
