An hour had passed and I was almost done with my homework. I was working on the last problem of five pages of math.
"Done!" I said while happily slapping my pencil in my desk, "now.. I just need to memorize the periodic table," I grabbed my phone and looked it up. I took one glimpse at it and felt like I knew it already. I stared at it for a minute just to imprint it in my brain.
"I think that was way too easy...." I said suspiciously, "did I really just memorize one hundred and eighteen elements?" I asked my self... "Eric!!!!" I called to him. He cam he thumping up the stairs.
"What do you want??" He asked, " I need to finish up my homework," he said
"Ask me any of these," I said handing him the phone.
"What is the atomic number and symbol for..... Neon?" He asked me
"Ne and ten," I replied without any problem, " hmmm. Asked me another,"
"What is the atomic number and symbol for Scandium?" He asked
" twenty-one and Sc, " I said "well... It looks like I am done studying!" I said happily
"What?! Done studying!?" He said,"How can you be done?? There are like one hundred of these!!" He said in amazement
"I don't know!" I said "it was just really easy to do.... I am not even sure how I did it!!"
"That's creepy, " Eric said as he sat down my phone.
" yeah it kinda is," I said agreeing with him..
The next day at school I got an A+ in math. I was very surprised when she handed me back my papers. I was for sure she would fail me.
Mr. Alfred seemed very very pleased when I recited the periodic table word for word and under two minutes.
"You see class!! Miss Rachael did it!! And for that I will give her this ring!!!" He said while handing me a silver ring with a slight hint if sea blue, "and she is only thirteen!!! I am very sure if she can do it you can too!!" He said. I hated being used as a standard for a group of people.. I was very sure he was making them hate me even more than they already had been!
After class I stayed behind.
"Sir," I said, "why did you give me this ring?"
"I gave it to you because you are a gifted young lady.. Ask your mom about the ring when you get home. I am very sure she will know what I mean," he smiled and showed me out of the school again.
I felt like he knew something I did not.. But I guess I would have to wait, like he said to get home and ask mum what the ring was.
"See you tomorrow,Mr. Alfred!" I called as I got into the car. He gave me a friendly smile and waved.
"Where did you get that ring?" Mum asked not even giving me time to buckle in.
"Mr. Alfred gave it to me.. For memorizing the periodic table," I answered
"But where did he get it?" She asked. I started feeling very uncomfortable.
" I don't know.... I wanted him to explain why he gave it to me,but he said I would have to ask you about it... And you apparently know something," I said while her eyes were staring at the ring.
"I will tell you when we get home," she said hurrying just a little bit, "we still need to get Eric.. I wonder if he got a ring..." Mum said to herself.
Eric got in the car and buckled in. He did not have a ring, but mum did not notice because she was driving.
"Did you get a ring Eric? Cause Rachael did,"
"No I didn't... Dominic did.." He said
Sounding very disappointed.
"Is he the friend that gave you the brownie?" I asked
"Yeah that's him. I am kinda jealous of him it was a really cool looking ring!! It was gold and had a slight color of fire orange to it,"
"I am sorry ,little brother," I said sounding very apologetic, "if ever I see him do you want me to punch him?" I asked trying to cheer him up.
"No. He is my friend I don't want him to hate you!" He said, "you two would probably get along nicely," he said grinning a little. I frowned at him inferring that we would be a cute couple.
