I started walking towards the school. My heart was beating fast. I felt like today was going to be absolutely terrible. I could see mum driving Eric to the Elementary School. I felt envious of Eric. He was so good at making friends. While I am just the odd one out. Mum had told me when I was younger that I was going to do great things. I was really beginning to doubt her.
I was inside now. There were a bunch of proper looking people. 'Uh oh,' I though to myself 'they already hate me,'
I tried not to make eye contact with anyone. I just kept my eyes looking straight ahead.
My first class was math. I was actually very good at math(I was actually pretty good at all of my subjects all A+'s) On my way to class everyone was staring at me. I could feel them hating the way I dressed. One group of kids pointed and started laughing at me. I had an urge to punch their lights out,but I just kept on walking. 'Keep it cool,' I said to myself over and over again 'try not to kill anyone if the first day!' Was the second thing I would repeat to myself.
When I finally got to class the bell rang and everyone came flooding in. I luckily grabbed a seat on the front row instead of being alone and rejected in the back.
"Everyone!" The teacher began "May I have your attention please? This is Rachael, and she is a new student. Rachael, come up to the front of the class and tell us something about yourself," she said
I stood up slowly and turned around since I was already at the front of the class.
"Umm... Hi everyone... As you know you name is Rachael.." I had absolutely no idea what to say "and I am 13 years old," I began. Some of the kids were laughing at me I did not understand why. I was smarter than all of these kids I was very sure I was. "And I like to read," 'thank goodness that was over!' I thought
"Now wait a second, Rachael!" The teacher called to me as I was sitting down "tell us a little more about yourself," I stared at her in anger.
"Ok," I said angrily "I would like for this class to hurry up so I can go to the next one," I said with an irritated smile. The whole class burst into laughter. I sat down with a sense of satisfaction. The teacher said nothing she just stared at me. I felt like she was reading me.
The rest of the day went on like this until the very last class which was science. The teacher's name was Alfred. He was extremely kind to me. He was the only friend I made that day.
He waited outside with me until my mum can to pick me up. I thought that was very sweet of him. I wondered if he knew how it felt to be the odd one out.
"Thanks for waiting with me!" I called to Mr. Alfred as I got into the car.
"No problem, Miss Rachael! No problem at all!" He said back to me kindly
"He is very sweet," I said to mum as we were driving to go and pick up Eric.
"He looked like it. What's his name?" Mum asked me
"His name is Alfred,"
"So....how was the first day of school?"
"Pretty bad except for Mr. Alfred. The math teacher pretty much hates me now because I showed her up during class. She gave us the wrong answer and I told her straight out that it was wrong. Honestly you would think a person who is teaching kids in the twelfth grade would know how to get the correct answer on a simple problem," (you are probably wondering why I am thirteen and in the twelfth grade. Both me and my brother a very gifted in school we catch on very quickly to even very advanced things)
"Did you get a lot of homework?" She asked me.
"I got loads and loads of it from Mrs. Dinkle," I said
"Who's that?" Mum asked
"The math teacher..... I have one essay to write for grammar, none in art, three pages in social studies, one page in history, and Mr. Alfred gave me the periodic table to memorize as my homework for the week. So I won't have to do anymore for the rest of the week if I do it," I said
"And you have to do this all by tomorrow?" She asked as Eric got into the car
"Yeah.. I do, but it all looks really pretty easy.. I should be able to do all of this in about an hour or two.. Maybe some more for the table of elements but the other I got them in the bag,"
"You sound confident!" Eric said "I have no idea what you are talking about but you sound really confident!"
"Yeah," I said "I kinda enjoy homework because it is so easy!!"
" I don't really like homework... I will never use it in real life. Like who needs to know how to add letters?!" He said
"You're just now getting to that???" I scoffed "wow. I was doing that stuff when I was six!!"
"Were you nice to the kids? Did you make any new friends?" Mum asked
"Ha!!! The only friend I made was Mr. Alfred. I did try to be nice but it's hard when all the kids walk around with their noses in the air," I said helplessly
"I made a new friend his name was Dominic," Eric said brightly, "he gave me his brownie during lunch and we instantly be came friends!"
"Some people get all the luck. A brownie and a new friend!! Gosh!" I said while laughing a little bit.
"How old is he?" Mum asked him
"He is twelve years old," Eric said
"Interesting.... Why'd he give you his brownie? Those things are amazing!!" I said
"He said he was full.. And then offered it to me," he answered, "and I of course took it and ate it as we talked about our subjects,"
"Cool cool," I said as we turned into the drive way "I can't wait to get started on this homework!"
"Weirdo," my brother said under his breath as we got out of the car. As soon as mum opened the door I ran upstairs and started on the homework.
